Okaasan Online vs. Isekai Cheat Magician | Round 4 | Anime TKO

The Battle for Isekai Supremacy draws to its conclusion, at last.

EvilBob: -Conniving, Devious, TWISTED-

Voyager: (smiles)

EvilBob: Stop Smiling!

Voyager: Huh? But I’m excited! We get to have more fun together!

EvilBob: … Opening Thoughts. Now.

OPENING THOUGHTS

EvilBob: Okasan Online is surprisingly still going strong. Oh look the others get to finally do something.  This was a nice conclusion to the school thing and to Medhi and her mom’s arc. I loved how it put a nice little bow on everything and I loved the Gatcha at the end. It felt realistic. I’m impressed that this show is able to present heartfelt moments and straight-up hilarious moments all in the same episode.

Voyager: Hmmmm… yep!

EvilBob: …What, AGAIN?

Voyager: Ahahaha! Guess I don’t really have anything to say!

EvilBob: Take this seriously, dang it!

Voyager: Ooooh. Bob. Your face is getting really red. You’re not feeling sick, are you? Did you just see a pretty girl or somethin’?

EvilBob: Rage. This is the color of pure rage.

Voyager: Hm?

Voyager: (applauds)

EvilBob: What?

Voyager: I’m clapping for you, silly.

EvilBob: …What?

Voyager: For winning this point! Congrats!

EvilBob: I… you… that’s…

Voyager: Speech! Speech! Speech! Speech!

EvilBob: Wha-?! You know I’m no good at public speaking!

Voyager: Eh? But we’re writing a blog post on the internet. No one’s here to see you.

EvilBob: …So the characters are still lovable and funny. They stand out as individuals in their own right. Unlike a certain cast of other characters I could mention…

Voyager: Ahahaha! I know, right!

EvilBob: Be insulted, dang it!

Voyager: Huh?

Voyager: (blows a noisemaker)

EvilBob: Gah! What now?!

Voyager: Hm? I’m cheering for you. And your point.

EvilBob: …Well, could ya do it quietly?!

Voyager: Oh. Okay! (softly blows a noisemaker)

EvilBob:

Voyager: (whispers) Speech! Speech! Speech!

EvilBob: Yeah, yeah, I know. Anyway, my show’s never really changed when it came to presentation. And it’s probably not going to. But Isekai Cheat Magician? Yeah, that last episode was pretty… basic, wouldn’t you say?

Voyager: Yup!

EvilBob: Darn you, be upset!

EvilBob: Let me guess…

Voyager:

EvilBob: …What?

Voyager: What?

EvilBob: Why are you just… sitting there?

Voyager: Oh. No reason. You can have the point, though!

EvilBob: . . .Victory… is supposed to be a lot sweeter than this. But whatever. Okaasan Online actually had a pretty solid story to tell. I especially like that it wasn’t just painting the situation as onesided. Medhi was somewhat at fault too, in her own way. And the resolution was pretty sweet and well done, giving everyone something to do and letting the characters grow… but in fairness, it’s not like it had to try especially hard to beat a cooldown episode.

Voyager: Hm. I guess Isekai Cheat Magician still wins the worldbuilding point. Cooldown episode or not, it did take the time to expand the world. So it works pretty well in that regard. Oh! Too bad it’s already basically lost this round, though, right?! Ahahaha!

EvilBob: …Something about your joy makes me want to vomit.

Voyager: Ewww…

Voyager: Eh. It’s kinda hard for a cooldown or setup episode to really do anything overly impressive with its atmosphere. Doable, but rare. And I dunno if Isekai Cheat Magician is the series to break the mold.

EvilBob: Aha! But Okaasan Online reached a great climax with a tense, emotionally charged episode. One where the atmosphere was set from the very beginning. It manages to not only have a very lighthearted mood, but a heartfelt tone that really makes the episode really work.

Voyager: Oh, you’re right! Congratulations!

EvilBob: Stop praising me, already!

Voyager: Heh? But if I don’t, who will?

EvilBob: …How do you manage to be so hurtful with a smile?

CONCLUSION

Voyager: Yay Bob! Hooray Okaasan Online! An overwhelming victory! Good job!

EvilBob:

Voyager: *gasp* How did you know I loved Looney Tunes?! Heehee, that one was so funny!

EvilBob: I hate you.

Voyager: So what did you guys think? Should this win have gone the way of Isekai Cheat Magician? Or did Okaasan Online totally earn this victory, yet again!

EvilBob: NO! wait… YES!

Voyager: You don’t get a vote, silly. Let us know, down below! Thanks for reading, everyone!

EvilBob: And for watching me waste my time… again.

Voyager: Keep up the Awesome!

EvilBob: Now beat it.

Voyager: Take care!
