The Promised Neverland

Goodbye, Sister Krone! | Weekly Evil Volume 7 Recap Winter 2019

Well, this week is the week of set-up. For three of my shows, at least. Too bad TKO is right around the corner, meaning only one of them is gonna survive. Will it be the samurai fantasy adventure, Dororo, or will The Promised Neverland escape its farm and move on to the next round?

EvilBob: Well, what did you think of that intro? Pretty sweet right?

Ry: You gonna to lose.

EvilBob: W-what? You can’t possibly know…

Ry: Have you read Voyager’s articles?

EvilBob: I mean yes but what…

Ry: Mob wins, ’nuff said.

EvilBob: No. I’ll never accept that as a reason to lose this TKO. So, it’s had three really awesome… I mean good episodes. That doesn’t ensure a victory, this early in the game.

Ry: Whatever helps you sleep at night.

EvilBob: You know what? I’m not doing this right now. Let’s just do the recaps and get this over with.

TKO Recaps
The Promised Neverland

Ry: So, in summary, a sister says farewell and the ticking clock starts.

EvilBob: He thought it might be fun to rip off Voyager’s new thing and try to summarize how screwed the kids are in one sentence. Now let’s go for the long summary. Sister Krone has been offed in the most brutal way possible. She has become a human Chia Pet. I’m not really kidding, either. She was killed by a demon planting a flower in her.

Ry: Right, and the plan to ship the kids out has been accelerated.

EvilBob: We also got a little on Krone’s past while she was being chased by a demon. Which would’ve meant something to me if it wasn’t just quick flashes. To be fair, though, you can get the gist of what happened to her with the images alone. I just wanted a little more than what we got.

Ry: Also, we finally see the much-talked-about character, Grandmother. Apparently, she was working with Isabelle and sent the demon that offed Krone.

EvilBob: Krone didn’t go to her death unawares though. She figured out that she was gonna die and hid something for the kids to find – a small covered box and a pen. No Idea what’s in the box but it has to be something to help them escape, seeing how her dying breath mentioned that they need to run and survive.

Ry: Unfortunately they got caught by Isabelle as well.

EvilBob: Yeah, she even broke Emma’s leg without batting an eye. And the worst part of it? She never once looked angry about anything.

Ry: Then she carried her back like nothing happened, after telling her Norman will be sent off soon. Yeah, this doesn’t look good for the kids.

Dororo (2019)

EvilBob: Right, Dororo is next up and I’m highly amused with just how many of these missions are because of Dororo’s need to make a buck. I guess if Hyakkimaru doesn’t mind, it’s okay. But I wonder if he’ll ever simply refuse to do one.

Ry: Take this episode, for example. Dororo and Hyakkimaru witness a boy attacking a bridal precession with a bow. Dororo offers to help save the bride for a price and Hyakkimaru doesn’t seem to mind and just simply goes along with the whole thing.

EvilBob: To be fair, she was getting sacrificed to a monster centipede.  I’d try to stop that too. But it turns out she willingly became the sacrifice to save the boy that came to save her. And she does just that.

Ry: After the creature leaves, Hyakkimaru and Dororo regroup with their client. Dororo and the client come up with a plan without Hyakkimaru because his spiritual senses are hindered by the black smoke the monster’s body creates. Dororo ends up dressed as the bride hoping to draw out the monster once more.

EvilBob: And it works. Dororo and the client manage to draw out the monster and detonate the sulfur I think? It might be natural gases. Doesn’t matter there was a big blue explosion that did nothing to the monster.

Ry: Dororo rodeos the centipede to help Hyaakimaru find the beast in the smoke, calling out its weak points to him. You know, like Navi but useful.

EvilBob: Yeah, the fight was pretty much over at that point. Sure Dororo got knocked unconscious, but she woke up in time to turn the fight around. Oh, and they saved the girl that got eaten.

Non TKO Recaps
Boogiepop and Others  (2019)

Ry: A new challenger approaches and I’m confused.

EvilBob: And you’re not the only one. The Distortion King? I think that’s what he calls himself. It seems he’s a lot like the Imaginator, as far as being physically dead is concerned anyway. And we know he built Moon Temple while he was alive but that’s about all we got about him so far.

Ry: And apparently he wants people inside it for some reason.

EvilBob: Also for some reason, he’s trying to get people to let go of things they’re holding onto in their hearts. I’m pretty sure a lot of this will get answered a little bit later but right now we have no real idea of what this guy is doing or why he’s doing it.

Ry: They do feel similar to The Imaginator, but they could be completely opposite too. I just hope it gets explained, next episode.

Grimms Notes The Animation

EvilBob: Shane and Tao got all the love, this time, as we returned to their home story zone. Which was dedicated to the Peach Boy, Momotaro.

Ry: This story zone is in the middle of a war between Oni and Humans. And the last Momotaro was apparently killed by the Oni.

EvilBob: Yes but, for some reason, Tao seemed like he wanted to leave as quickly as they arrived. And the rest of the team didn’t want to get involved either. But Reina had other plans. Yes, they did involve food.

Ry: They follow Momotaro the Oni Village and they find the Oni building boats.

EvilBob: The kid goes ballistic and tries to kill the Oni princess, leading Tao to knock him out with a single blow.

Ry: In this mess, they learn that Shane is a hornless Oni and the group hitches a ride with the Oni to their island where the last Momotaro met his end, saving Tao’s life.

EvilBob: Well, now we know why he didn’t want to get involved. While on the island, the team spots smoke in the direction of the Oni village and arrive just in time to face Momotaro and a legion of villains that he’s controlling. Or, at least, he thinks he is. Turns out the chaos teller is his grandfather and grandmother combined, forming a double-headed Oni.

Ry: The fight doesn’t last long and the big bad is easily dealt with.

EvilBob: Yeah, it kind of sucked compared to what they’ve had before. I mean even the giant windmill monster felt more threatening and that fight was wonky. This thing got taken out by Tao using John Silver who was a much harder fight, earlier on. I don’t know it seems like they ran out of budget.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind

Ry: Bucciarati did, in fact, die. For a few seconds before Giorno brought him back as a… zombie? I have no idea if he can even be considered alive now.

EvilBob: The boss was still there and ready to go in for the kill too. Then the others showed up and he changed his mind real quick. Also, it sounds like he thinks Bucciarati planned all of it. Which means he views the entire team as traitors.

Ry:  Apparently, he’s only going to have Bucciarati and Giorno killed. At least they were the only ones mentioned in the hit that was sent out.

EvilBob: It would make sense given the initial reactions of Bucciarati’s crew when they learned of his betrayal.

Ry: They were pretty shocked, some saying they understood why he did. It even seemed that all might agree with him at first.

EvilBob: In the end, only Fugo refused to join. Although I have a feeling he’s gonna end up paying for that later. It’s easy to see why he didn’t go though. Why join in on something if you think it’s hopeless?

Ry: I have a bad feeling that if Fugo doesn’t join soon it might be too late for him.

EvilBob: You too huh? Might be a twin thing.

Is It Evil Ratings

EvilBob: Oh My Gawd! Episode 8 got dark fast.

Ry: And we got a pretty Krone flower, but I do wonder what she might have left the kids to aid them. Is it a weakness in the operation, a weapon, a map, who knows.

EvilBob: Probably the people who’ve read the manga. Which excludes us for now. This was an amazing episode that left us hanging in more than one way. I’d say it’s about as Evil as a Super Villian! (10).

Ry: Hyakkimaru kills another monster and saves a potential victim yeah, that was great.

EvilBob: Yeah, It was pretty much business as usual. Find the monster, kill the monster. Pretty standard for this show.

Ry: It’s good fun to see Hyakkimaru slaying another giant monster and saving people. I say episode 8 is about as Evil as a Super Villian! (10).

EvilBob: New villain, new arc, and zero understanding of what’s going on. Yup, Boogiepop is still doing its thing.

Ry: Yeah it is, at least it remains interesting.

EvilBob: It’s not the best episode so far. We got barely anything in the way of action. But we did get a lot of set-up for the new baddie so I guess that’s good. I’d say episode 14 is about as Evil as a Killer Robot Army! (8).

Ry: So episode eight had rumors of Oni wars and a hungry girl leading up to a showdown with a two-headed monstrosity.

EvilBob: It’s sad how accurate that is. This episode was pretty straightforward and didn’t really do anything for the show as a whole.

Ry: Yeah, there’s not much else to say about this episode. I’d say this episode is about as Evil as a Villian! (9).

EvilBob: Disgusted with the boss’s methods, a brave team of heroes sets off to protect a damsel in distress.

Ry: And gets Bucciarati slaughtered in the process, then sort of fixed by Giorno. The boss calls a hit on them so its getting heated up fast

EvilBob: I’m so psyched for this coming arc. We finally get to see a JoJo main team running from something. That’s new. This episode was a nice conclusion to the current arc and a really good place to start the next.  Anyway, episode 21 is about as Evil as a Super Villian! (10).

Conclusion

Ry: So that was a thing. Speaking of things, when is that Anime TKO happening again?

(Voyager: Wow. That transition was so terrible, it caused me actual physical pain. Good job.)

EvilBob: That should be happening sometime soon. Why you ask?

Ry: No reason just wanted to know when I’d get to see you get wrecked by Voyager again.

EvilBob: What do you mean by that? He totally rigged it last time. This time there’s no way I can lose.

Ry: Yeah ok.

EvilBob: …Let’s just close this thing out already.

Ry: Well, that’s all we have for you for now.

EvilBob: Thanks for letting us waste your time people. If you haven’t checked out Voyager’s list be sure to do that before the TKO. And most importantly Keep it Classy.
