In order to stand up against Spirals, people founded the “Arc End”. Individuals whose skills are recognized are admitted to Arc End to become “Period” to fight for peace. Haru, who failed the Period admittance test 38 times, was accidentally admitted as an “Assistant Period” in Arc End 8th Squad. Forming a team along with other new members, Gajeru and Liza, he is finally able to take his first step towards reaching his goal. –Crunchyroll

None of this was covered in the show… That’s the opposite of how this usually goes. It does help things make a little more sense though. Haru seems pretty noobish compared to his companions. Anyway, let’s talk about this overly meta thing. Our story begins with the mentioned team returning from vacation? Apparently being a Period has its perks, but as the team finds out, there are some drawbacks to being wealthy. When they return to the office they find it has been closed down because it couldn’t pay its debts. “But you said they were wealthy, Bob.” Don’t worry I’m getting to that part. They follow a conveniently placed map that Choco found to their new office. That’s a rundown apartment building. The team agrees to keep working for less pay after finding out that the funds have been stolen. The team then sets off a mission to help Stingy Town, and it’s Mayor Big Bucks. There they run into this wannabe Sentai team.

Just a quick note: none of them are men and they aren’t wise. After the team loses a ‘fight’ – and yes it’s parodying gacha – The Wiseman withdraws for absolutely no reason, leaving our heroes victors-by-circumstance. It could’ve gone much worse.

The next episode starts off with them already heading to their next mission but this time they end up traveling with their boss. When the team questions why, they’re told that if they do a good enough job they might get to use the hot springs as a bonus. Oh no, this is way too early for a hot’s spring episode.

Ha, Choco agrees. They quickly deal with the spirals in the area and get that break in the hot springs with all the fan service that comes with it. But Choco ends up jumping into the guy’s side of the springs and ends everything. She was chasing her emergency food, and no it’s not what you were just thinking. Bad. Bad reader.

After that, the team takes on the task of attracting more customers to the hot spring. They’re interrupted by their rivals, Wiseman. We get almost a repeat of the events from the first episode except for this time both sides end up protecting the village instead of fighting each other. The battle somehow unblocks the waterways restoring the hot springs in the process. Also, it gets featured in a popular anime… I can’t even. But as Choco says.

This was a lot of fun. Choco is Best Girl in this series. She always breaks the fourth wall and seems to be aware of every trope being used at all times. I’m glad they got the hot springs episode out of the way already and I’m somewhat curious about what they will do to the beach episode. These two episodes are about as Evil as a Villian (9).
