Is it Evil? – No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky – a game mired in controversy. Controversy that I don’t care to go into. The only thing I want to know, How Evil Is It?

Before I start, let me make something clear. I, in no way, listen to promises made by developers. I’ll say that after the smoke clears, they’ll  learn their lesson. They’re a small developer that bit off more than they could chew, and made some promises they couldn’t keep. Just like Bungie and Destiny, Lion Head and Fable 3, and countless others. They shoud’ve learned from that history but, that being said, I won’t rub it in or blame solely them for this fiasco. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to the actual topic of this article.

No Man’s Sky is an okay game, and I’ve in sunk many hours just exploring and learning alien languages. In fact I have become allies with all of the races I have met so far. I‘ve lost track of all the worlds I’ve visited, sadly, because the worlds I’ve seen mostly look the same. I’ve seen others on YouTube with worlds drastically different, so I probably just drew the short stick… as always.

There’s a pretty complex economic infrastructure but, to be honest, I suck at trading goods in any game. Even though my trading skills are lacking, my relations with the alien races pays off. I have received multi-tools on more than one occasion and apparently promised to marry an alien I have never met. The funny thing is, I still don’t understand what they’re saying to me. All of that’s just  a fraction of what the game has to offer, and  it’s among my favorite parts of the game.

All right! That’s some of the stuff I love about the game. Now for… the other stuff.Starting with the lack of Multiplayer. This game would benefit greatly from multiplayer. Why? I’ll tell you, audience. I’ve had many run-ins with enemy ships, which always ended in my exploding in space, where my screams can never be heard. I may not be the best pilot in gaming, but the AI is extremely good at maneuvering. If, say, my ace pilot brother were able to play with me, I’m pretty sure we would be cashing in on loot by now. And yes, I know…

Other than my lack of flying skills, exploring with a friend would be awesome. We could land on separate worlds or explore a single world, twice as fast.Unfortunately the game’s also lacking variety. The animals are near identical throughout the planets I visited, and most of the plants are too. A little more variety would make the planets seem that much more alien and alive. Other than that, the planets are, well, pretty. My favorite had a teal sky and dark blue grass but there could’ve more.

If I had to rate this game, I’d give it an Evil (Okay). The game itself is beautiful, and definitely worth your time. Anyway, Thanks for letting me waste your time, people.

Keep it Classy,
Evil Bob
