All right, let’s break in the new site overhaul with a brand new tag, courtesy of nabe-chan, over on geeknabe! Thanks, bud! And now, on with the show. First thing’s first, you all know the drill. I’ve gotta remind everyone of the rules. So here we go!

Everyone sufficiently reminded? Okay, good! Now for the questions. What, oh what, could nabe-chan have decided to- oh… Oh… well, all righty then. Bringing out the hard-hitting journalism, there, I see. Well, all right.

It’s going to be 2020 soon, so what’s YOUR No. 1 anime of the decade?

…Okay, maybe it wasn’t fake news. In any event, I don’t currently have one. I have a whole other post on this subject, but I don’t really quantify how much I like things that way. For the sake of not leaving you without an answer, though, I’ll just revive an old meme around this site and say that among my most beloved anime ever, which happened to come out this decade, is Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru.

I’ve talked about it to death and probably needn’t any further. But HERE’s the old review of that which I’m actually considering redoing soon.

What character (anime/manga/games, take your pick) has left the strongest impression on you?

Uh… well, we’re leaving out comics and movies, so… pro’lly Tohka.

I say that without even a hint of irony. I got back into anime pretty much entirely because I saw Date A Live (upon friend recommendation) and fell in love with her design and overall depiction. If Tohka hadn’t existed, I probably wouldn’t be writing this very article. So… yeah. Tohka. Can I call it a profound effect on me personally? Not really. But honestly I don’t think any character from anything – anime or otherwise – has had that level of effect on me since I was… like… twelve.

Who’s your waifu/husbando?

Jesus, I have too many to count. It’s a running gag on our show that Rila’s list of waifus can probably wrap around the solar system. Her favorite is Akatsuki from Log Horizon and that’s a really good one but… I dunno. There’s also Android 18 (who we did a whole episode on. Just sayin. cough)… screw it. Hestia is Bestia.

What is your take on fans’ acclaimed Top 3 (Naruto/Bleach/One Piece)?

I could never really get into Naruto or Bleach. I like One Piece, but I fell behind and it’s gotten too long, at this point, for me to get back to it.

What advice do you have for new bloggers?

I dunno. I’m basically a new blogger. I haven’t really treated this site like a blog for the past almost 4 years or really tried to interact with anyone. I’m pretty much learning everything almost half a decade later XD I suppose that’s the takeaway. If you’re trying to do this, don’t move too fast. Treat it like a blog, get to know people, and be patient. You’ll grow.

What anime would you recommend to your friends that have never seen a single episode in their life?

I don’t have any friends who’ve never seen a single episode. I got to know all of my friends through anime, pretty much. But to humor the question, I’d want to know their tastes first. I can think of very, very few anime that I’d call quintessential to the medium as a whole. I’d maybe say something like Magi or DanMachi.

Adventure is my favorite genre because it’s really easy to fit in a little of just about everything without things feeling forced. And those two anime are great examples of that. So by being the quintessential adventure anime (of this age, calm down) that come to mind, that’s probably going to get you pretty close to “this is anime” for me.

What’s your opinion on fanservice in anime?

I think it’s fine as long as it’s not overly intrusive in a story where it’s not intended to be the main draw. If the story doesn’t literally stop for it, I’m good. Better it be woven into the story so it’s not a distraction. In terms of its tastefulness, I pretty much just parrot Scott’s thoughts on the matter. He wrote a good post on it a while back. I’m not going to get into it in great detail because this site’s nooot the place for it (I’ll save that for my personal blog, thanks). But my general opinion on the matter is honestly just that I don’t care. Unless I am specifically seeking it out, the sex appeal in anime doesn’t do anything for me because that part of my brain isn’t on. So I only even care to pay attention to it when an anime forces me to by making it unnecessarily intrude on the story or making it tasteless and objectifying.
