And so concludes Soul Eater Summer. But is it with a bang… or a whimper? We shall see.
Quick Thoughts
Yeah. I’ve… been alluding to this, but, um… I have never cared for this ending, all that much. I don’t hate it. But as someone who personally is more interested in actual storytelling mechanics, I’m not really a fan of when a story throws all of that to the wayside in favor of an ending that’s suppose to “feel” a certain way or deliver some profound message. And this gets dangerously close to that. The episode isn’t bad, per se. Just not built to my tastes, as a whole. Some definite storytelling mechanics and such are in play. A false lead and all that. But it really felt like a lot of this episode was just… throwing stuff at the wall in order to prove the direness of the situation, only for Maka “Normal ex Machina” her way out.
Favorite Screen Grab
I mean… the punch thing does somewhat bother me… but it’s still really damn satisfying.
Favorite Line
“Hell if I care!” has never sounded like such an epic line. Really, though. This moment? When viewed in a vacuum, this moment is stellar. It just feels kind of off, due to… a lot that existed before it.
MVP: Maka
Who else? She won. And seeing how far she’s managed to evolve from the self-doubting girl to the confident one she is now has been a fantastic journey. The character progression for her came across, in this episode, loud and clear.
Wrap-Up
So what’s your take on the ending? I understand it’s vastly different from the manga and such. But I’ve not read it. Nor do I particularly care to, if I’m honest. Too much else to do. But do you think this ending is serviceable or in need of… something else? Let me know, down below. And that’s it for this little event. What better way to close out the Summer Season than with the final installment of Soul Eater Summer? Thanks for coming along for the ride! And you know the rest, by now. Keep up the Awesome!
Take Care,
