MVP: Black☆Star

As much as I want to give this to Lord Death for the friggin’ mecha battle, I’d be lying if I said Black☆Star didn’t have an excellent showing in this episode, putting on full display how he’s developed beyond the arrogant brat from before into something much nobler and more admirable. Sort of taking the typical Shounen archetype and dissecting certain aspects of it – particularly the confident boisterousness that’s so exuded by many of those stock Shounen protagonists. The series did an excellent job of just cracking that wide open and exploring it with this (admittedly heavily exaggerated) character. If I have any criticisms of the arc at all, it’s how little Tsubaki ultimately factors into the resolution of it.
