Isekai Cheat Magician vs. Maou-sama, Retry | Round 4 | Anime TKO

The victor has already been decided. But it’s still not over yet! Redemption Arc Go!

EvilBob: I may have lost. But this is my moment! What do you all think? Can Maou-sama, Retry! redeem itself and put a point on the-

Voyager: No.

EvilBob: …can’t blame me for trying.

Maou-sama, Retry

OPINIONS

EvilBob: This episode was a slight improvement from the last one. The fight didn’t last long enough to be boring and the new characters were a nice touch. I have a feeling Kunai is just gonna start embracing the whole demon lord thing. And if that had happened in the first three episodes, this fight would’ve been a little harder to figure out. I think this series’s biggest problem is that it seems afraid to commit to anything. If they’d gone all-in on the demon lord angle, this could’ve been a sillier version of Overlord. They don’t even seem all-in on the Harem aspect of the show. But that one I’m glad they didn’t go for as most of the female cast so far are under age. In conclusion, it’s a fun show but the execution really needs work.

Voyager: Isekai Cheat Magician is… interesting. It’s actually picked up to the point of being fairly entertaining. Though not quite to the same extent as, say, Kenja no Mago did, last season. There are definitely some things to say about its overall presentation. But I’ll save that for later. This episode has finally gotten around to delivering on more of the plot and even gave us a few pretty solid character moments while also introducing us to the ‘hook’ of Taichi’s power. What he winds up doing with it, we’ll have to see. But it was an okay time, overall.

EvilBob: Do we have to?

Voyager: Yes. How else am I going to humiliate you for daring to oppose me?

EvilBob: Aha! I know how to beat you now!

Voyager: By annoying me into submission?

EvilBob: No. I can beat you with four words.

Voyager: Oh, this I’ve gotta hear.

EvilBob: Isekai Cheat Magician wins.

Voyager: . . .bastard.

EvilBob: Okay. Let’s be honest.

Voyager: Yeah, neither of these are… all that great, here.

EvilBob: Buuut Maou-sama, Retry! managed to somehow be even less stellar than its competition.

Voyager: I mean… if anything… that’s something to be impressed with. Right?

EvilBob: Well… I am impressed at how bad it can look sometimes. But there’s one positive thing I can definitely say about it.

Voyager: And that is?

EvilBob: It doesn’t have any god awful CGI abominations.

Voyager: …why do I suddenly feel attacked?

EvilBob: Hey. I have a question for you?

Voyager: You not knowing something is pretty par for the course…

EvilBob: Well that wasn’t very nice. But, um… can you help me find Maou-sama’s story? It seems to have been misplaced.

Voyager: Now… I know my name is Voyager, but I don’t think we’re gonna find that after even the most grueling of quests.

CONCLUSION

Voyager: Well, that was fast.

EvilBob: Yeeeah.

Voyager: Looks like this one was a blowout, then.

EvilBob: Yeeeeeah.

Voyager: *pouts* I didn’t even get to enjoy my victory, this time…

EvilBob: Aw. You poor thing. Let me play you a sad song on the violin.

Voyager: . . .

EvilBob: So, what about you guys at home? Was this blowout fair play? Or do you think Maou-sama, Retry! should’ve been able to put a point on the-

Voyager: They don’t.

EvilBob: Must you?

Voyager: Of course. Anyway, let us know, down below! Thanks, as always, for reading, folks. Keep up the Awesome!

EvilBob: And keep it Classy.

Voyager: Take Care.

  1. From watching both of these I have to agree here. I’m actually enjoying Isekai Cheat Magician even if I’m not going to declare it particularly brilliant or noteworthy. Maou-Sama Retry is just managing to not annoy me enough to actually drop it but at the same time I’m just not having a great deal of fun with it and there’s little else to recommend it.
