Greetings Geeks! It’s time for another monthly update!
What’s New?
There’s a lot to report, surprisingly! For once! Some of it still comes down to “Hurry up and wait,” but there is some actual movement, going on. The first thing to note is that the soft-revamp is coming together. As a part of that, we are slightly retooling a few minor things on the technical side that you really needn’t worry about. It’s just going to ensure that we have an easier time doing our jobs, around here. Makes things faster, more efficient, etc. While we get used to it, there may be a few delays. But nothing quite as severe as they have been in the past, barring circumstances beyond our control.
That said, there are some new things for you to actually take note of! The first is that we decided to start actually using our Pinterest. Keep in mind that I haven’t a clue what I’m doing, so it’ll be something of a learning process. Figuring out how it’s supposed to work and all that. I use Pinterest for personal projects (kinda) but all I really ever do with it is browse. So figuring out the actual particulars should be… an adventure. The existing plan is to have our boards focus on the site content, maybe introduce some other stuff, further down the line. There’s a board for our features. We’ll be making boards for each new Anime TKO. And we’ve gone ahead and made boards for all of the anime we’re going to be covering from this season, onward. If you’re interested, give us a follow, HERE.
Another thing to note is that, with the revamp so close, the current season of Bulletoon has concluded. And with Season 9 over, it’s time to address this. There isn’t going to exactly be a “Season 10” as it’d probably be understood. No, we’re not canceling the show. Far from it. We’re just focusing on making it better, reinventing it, in a sense. Same girls, same look, better content. So we’re taking it as the approach of a soft-relaunch. When it comes back, consider it a brand new Season 1. And no, that doesn’t mean we’re resetting what little continuity it has. BUT, with all of this being the case, we’re definitely going to be taking a bit more time to work it out. So the show is going on a one-month hiatus while we work on putting together the finishing touches and assembling a backlog of scripts and episodes. That way we can get ahead of the curve and make the return something more special.
Any Light Novel Updates?
All right, now let’s talk Burning Sky! About time we gave you guys another update on this, right? Well, there’s plenty we could say, but we like secrets and surprises. So you get nothing! Mwahaha! Kidding. The truth of the matter is that we’re really happy with where we are on this project, at the moment. We’re going to be getting the last of our feedback pretty soon, and then we’ll go through an editing pass. After that, we’ll be getting our ducks in a row on the artwork. The plan is to release the book in Web Novel format. And that’s all we can say at the moment. No time frame just yet, nor anything on where, exactly, we intend to release it (most likely not on this very site, given how the formatting would work). We’ll be discussing a release schedule, as well, no doubt, probably around the next major milestone. But, for now, that’s quite a ways away. As for everyone who’s been able to get their hands on the beta version, so far, we hope you’ve enjoyed it!
Spring 2019 Anime Season Pickups!
All right. We’re anibloggers, so let’s be honest. This is the part you wanna hear about. “What new anime are you picking up for the season?!” Well, to be fair, we already answered that! Sorta. We had the girls detail it on the show in their little surprise appearance on the Winter 2019 Anime TKO Grand Finals! But I hear ya. Not everyone reads those. And, really, that article is a long read and went up at a weird hour. So here’s the skinny on that. We’re not covering quite as much, this season. Or, perhaps it’d be more accurate to say we’re not featuring as much, this season.
Let me explain. We’re actually picking up a ton of anime. But when I say we’re only “featuring” a handful, I mean those are the ones we’re going to be focusing more of our writing attention on. They’ll be the shows that get regular reviews, no matter what, unless we drop one. Among the myriad of other shows we’ll be covering, we’ll only be writing about those few episodes that may really stand out, to us. Otherwise, we’re watching them, but that’s about it. Mind you, we aren’t watching all the same stuff, either. There’ll be some overlap, but several shows we’re taking on an individual level. So here’s the list in terms of what we’ve grabbed for the season, as well as some quick First Impressions on the ones we’ve been able to catch, so far.
Features
Kimetsu no Yaiba – Weekly Anime Redux
Voyager: It’s a demon-hunting Shounen series, animated by ufotable. I’m in. And the first episode was pretty solid. Set up everything pretty well. Though I think people are reacting a bit too hard to it. It’s not like it’s amazing. It’s effective. It does everything just effectively enough to be intriguing. Though I do think the abundance of narration was a bit much.
Fruits Basket (2019) – Weekly Evil
EvilBob: Never got to see the first series. I’m hoping this one is entertaining enough to warrant me watching the original one, too. From what I’ve seen so far, it looks like it’s going to be a pretty fun ride. The main cast seems to be pretty enjoyable and I love the dynamics between them so far. Looking forward to more of Fruits Basket: Brotherhoo- Ulti- 2019, when it comes out.
Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai – Weekly Anime Redux
Voyager: This is a show that also manages a rather effective first episode, displaying the sense of humor, the emotional core (where it matters), and perhaps the most important thing. It establishes the “Harem Lead” as an actual character. He has goals and motivations of his own. He’s not a lump of cardboard for the other characters to just bounce off of. I admire when a Harem Comedy does that. It did just as well to set up the first two girls of the cast. So I’m glad to see where this goes. It’s fairly tame. Not the most outrageously funny or standout thing in the world. But it could be good fun in the end, and that’s what matters most, really.
One-Punch Man II – Weekly Evil
EvilBob: Woo! More One-Punch Man! HYPE! HYPE! HYPE! *sees the preview* oh. yeah… Hype has dissipated. I mean… it could still be good! I’m… just not expecting much in the animation department, now.
Non-Features
Fairy Gone (EvilBob)
EvilBob: Super Soldiers that use Stands? I’m in!
Kenja no Mago (EvilBob)
EvilBob: Always liked Arthurian Legend. Merlin’s Grandson could be a fun ride.
Carole & Tuesday (Voyager)
Voyager: …It’s Studio Bones. That is the only reason.
Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu (EvilBob/Voyager)
EvilBob: I mean… it looks cute.
Voyager: Ditto.
Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san (EvilBob/Voyager)
Voyager: I mean… it looks cute.
EvilBob: Ditto.
Shoumetsu Toshi (EvilBob/Voyager)
EvilBob: …Did you see the insane action in that preview?
Voyager: It’s Madhouse. ’nuff said.
Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shoujo YU-NO (Voyager)
Voyager: I’unno. People wouldn’t shut up about it, so…
Gunjou no Magmel (EvilBob/Voyager)
EvilBob: This one looks a lot like Hunter x Hunter.
Voyager: Suspiciously so. But… that’s not exactly the worst thing in the world? I mean… if you’re gonna copycat…
Namu Amida Butsu!: Rendai Utena (EvilBob)
EvilBob: Really just a random watch. I saw a clip that was funny, so…
Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki (EvilBob)
EvilBob: Another cute one. Nothing else, really.
And that’s basically it. EvilBob is working on a more in-depth First Impressions post of his own. I won’t be doing that, however. Honestly, I find they’re not especially helpful and I seldom have anything of great value to say about a first episode of anything unless it blows me away, which none of the shows I’ve watched, thus far, have done. If I do a first impression on any of the shows I’ve not yet watched, I’ll likely do so as individual reviews.
Which brings me to that point, actually. I’m bringing Individual Reviews back, though not under the banner of Flash Anime-tion, as before. I’ll be individually covering both We Never Learn and Kimestu no Yaiba. Weekly Anime Redux will be reserved for “older” anime reviews, short recaps of what was said in the individual reviews, and one-line reviews of the other shows on the list. Also, the awards section is fun to write, so I’ll be keeping that.
Other Reviews
“But Voyager, you’re done with Noragami and you haven’t announced your next Retrospective yet!” Oh. Right. Here.
The World God Only Knows (Flash Anime-tion)
Figured I’d finally give this one a once-over for the site. If nothing else, I can use it as a template on Harem shows and such, going forward. Should be fun to revisit this one. And, as I’m sure you noticed, it’s the only one, this month. That’s because, unlike with Medaka Box, I’m covering the whole thing in one go. All 24 episodes I’ve seen, plus the third season I haven’t. Should be fun!
Kotoura-san (Weekly Anime Redux)
Honestly, this is just on here so I can check it off of my watch list. That is entirely it. I’ve not seen it, despite my meaning to. So, here it is. Viola.
Streaming News?
All right. I’m planning a Trial Stream on Sunday. That’s April 14th @ 5PM EST. And it should be going on for an hour or two. It’ll likely just be a bit of Overwatch and I’ll be solo as I just work on tweaking a few settings and such. If’n ya feel like stopping by, you can do so HERE. And I’ll be posting the stream on Twitter when it goes live.
Conclusion
And that should be everything of note. All pertinent information. Thanks for reading, as always. Keep up the Awesome!
Take Care,
Voyager
