Look, Ma! We’re Neat! Are Ya Proud Yet?! | The Real Neat Blog Award

Been a while since we’ve done one of these. Let’s correct that! It’s the first award post of 2019!

Been quite a while, hasn’t it? This lovely award brought to you by the letter – I mean blogger – Amelia, from A Girl & Her Anime! Thanks a bunch! Really appreciate it! Keep up the Awesome! So, let’s get stuck into it, shall we?

  1. Display the award logo.
  2. Thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog.
  3. Answer the questions of the one who nominated you.
  4. Nominate 7-10 bloggers
  5. Ask them seven questions

Check. Check. And that leaves the last few parts! On to the questioning round!

Considering it’s still the start of a new year, did you make any resolutions and have you been able to keep them?

Hm… Nope! I’ve never really been one for resolutions. I’m boring, like that. I do set goals, just never really for New Years.

What’s the most challenging thing for you when maintaining a blog or YouTube channel?

Consistent schedule, really. We do a lot of stuff, around here. A webshow, original projects, anime reviews, editorials, it can be a bit much. A lot of the time I’ll wind up promising something then waiting for a much longer period of time than promised to receive something we need for a project. Or something will happen that derails my personal schedule and throws me off. It’s also really tricky getting back into a groove once you’ve lost it. So yeah.

I suppose coming up with interesting content is also pretty rough. I don’t tend to have opinions that are all that complex or controversial, I don’t think. So I don’t really have that going for me as a draw. Other people are far better at critical analysis than me. Not that I can’t produce genuine deep dives and whatnot. I just lack the time or patience. I don’t like sitting on one topic for very long, which thorough analysis requires. So my schtick falls on just trying to be as entertaining and topical as possible, occasionally stepping off to the side to talk about something a bit more out of personal interest.

Do you have any regrets regarding your work in 2018?

Mostly that I didn’t make more editorials, since those seem to be the things that get the most traction, with me. Most of the reason for the haphazard nature of our schedule has been the behind-the-scenes work on the book or… other things. Still. Not an especially great feeling. But I am rather proud of the ones I did manage to crank out.

If you could recommend me a show/book, what would it be and why?

Ours ;P Kidding. Just off the top of my head, Log Horizon. It’s just my favorite rendition of the ‘trapped in a game’ schtick, you find pretty often, these days. Its characters are great, its themes excellently conveyed, and it’s a lot of fun. Of course, it’s kind of a meme with us, really, that I pretty much always recommend the same five things (Log Horizon, Yuki Yuna, Flip Flappers, Hyouka, Boku no Hero Academia). I’m pretty predictable.

What do you do when you’re feeling unmotivated to do something?

Sleep, browse the internet, or play videogames? Sometimes I just force myself to write something to get my creative juices flowing. Thing is, I have a natural motivation deficiency, for any number of reasons I’m not gonna get into. So I have to kinda make myself do things, a lot of the time. I think the main way I’m motivated to do a lot of stuff is by working with others, thereby forcing myself into a situation where someone else is relying on my doing something in some way, thus introducing immediate consequences, more or less. So, basically, pressure. Pressure’s a good way to get me to do stuff.

If you could just hop on a plane and fly to any country right now, what country would you go to and why?

That depends. Would I also instantly learn and fluently understand the language of the country? Because, if so, absolutely Japan. For one thing, the land, itself, is beautiful. There’s also the food I’d wanna try, for sure. And I’d love to learn more about the culture, itself. I just wouldn’t want to be “that guy.” You know. The dumb American that goes around, disrespecting people and drawing strange looks, even unintentionally. Of course, I’d also love to go over there for… you know… business reasons. But if we ignore the obvious answer, then maybe France. I’m not nearly as enamored with it, but I’m interested in the culture, at least. Same with England, Ireland, and Italy. Also wouldn’t mind visiting Canada, I suppose. Though, being American, that’s probably a pretty uninspired answer. I mean… I can drive there.

What are you looking forward to the most for 2019?

With any luck, getting a book finished XD

Don’t expect it to be published any time within this year. But getting the Beta Read and Professional Edit done would be a huge plus.

Nominations

And now on to the nominations! Better known as the part I struggle with the most. I follow a lot of people, but interact with so few of them, it’s a bit of a problem T-T I is failure. Kidding. Okay then.

Winter Reverie
Lynn Sheridan
Ang
TwoHappyCats
A Nerdy Perspective
LitaKino
Arthifis

I always end up repeating at least a few of these, but I like these questions, so let’s have a redux. I’m curious!

Questions
  1. Do you have any writing habits on your blog that bug you and you try to stop doing?
  2. Is there any particular type of character arc that really appeals to you? (i.e Redemption Arc? Revenge Arc? Romance Arc? Be The Very Best, Like No One Ever Was? etc.)
  3. What’s a character that you like despite normally being a type of character you really don’t care for?
  4. What’s a story you revisit often, just to relax?
  5. What’s a series you think had potential but could’ve used a little more time in the oven?
  6. Is there anything you’ve always wanted to do with your blog that you couldn’t/can’t, for whatever reason?
  7. Here’s a new one. What’s the thing you did last year that you’re most proud of?

Conclusion

‘Eyyy! We did it! Actually got a couple more of these I really need to get on, so look forward to that. But, for now, it’s been fun! Thanks for the nomination! And thanks, as always, for reading!

Keep up the Awesome!

Love the title! Congrats on being neat :D
Same here when I’m feeling unmotivated. I try to sleep and feel refreshed but it backfires most of the time because then I never want to leave the bed.
