Golden Kamuy Episode 20 Recap | Is It Evil?

Well, it was a beach episode… kinda. All right, I’m just gonna say it. What the heck did I just watch? (Voyager: Yeah, seriously) How Evil is Golden Kamuy’s 20th episode?

The Sugimoto gang hit the beach for some fun in the sun. It looks like the real reason they stopped was so Sugimoto could try some more Ainu food though. I think he may be obsessed with that now. It seems they can’t go anywhere without trying some new dish. And boy did they get to try something new. They got to try sea otter stew this time but it had some… side effects. (Voyage: Oh yeah)

But before they even got to cook it the group was assaulted by a swarm of locusts, causing Asirpa and Inkarmat to be separated from the guys. Well, technically Inkarmat vanished after they were given the sea otter meat, because… reasons. She seemed to not like that the man who gave it to them told her to eat it with Tanigaki. You see, it turns out it’s a strong aphrodisiac, and the guys cook it up without knowing this. And, well…

Let’s just put it this way. What happens in the beach shed, stays in the beach shed. It’s so bad that the guys all agree to never mention it again. They leave the shed behind, except for Tanigaki. He seems to have gotten the worst of it. He’s laying there in his undergarments when Inkarmat pays him a visit and things get… intimate. She claims it’s because of the sea otter and, at this point, I’m inclined to believe it after what happened to the guys (Voyage: …Dude).

Anyway, that wasn’t the only thing that happened. We got a lot more on Asirpa this time. Asirpa confronted Inkarmat about what she knew while the guys were intoxicated with each other. The most surprising thing was that Inkarmat claimed that Kiroranke killed her father and that the guy in the prison they’re going to is not him. Of course, Asirpa directly confronted him too. He denied everything but this caused a rift in the group. Sugimoto thought up a quick fix though. If Kiroranke or Inkarmat die before they get answers, he’ll kill the one that lived. He claimed that was a joke but I think everyone knows the truth.

It wasn’t.

Speaking of the prison they’re going to, it seems like Lieutenant Tsurumi has already started to move in. He has a guy on the inside, although the guy got caught quickly due to some sloppy undercover work. He forgot to make sure he wasn’t being followed when he reported back.

As you can imagine, the real warden wasn’t thrilled to hear about the 7th being on his doorstep and he ordered the guy to be executed. That didn’t go the way he wanted it to, but the guy in charge of the deed reported that it was successful. Probably because he didn’t want to become pig food himself.

Overall, I’d say this episode was about as Evil as a Villian (9). If you get a chance check out Voyager’s latest article. Well, that’s all I have for you today. Thanks for letting me waste your time, people.

Golden Kamuy’s second season is on Crunchyroll.

Keep It Classy,
Evil Bob
