Rise of the Fall 2018 Anime Season + Two New Polls! | Galvanic Post

The Fall Season is nearly upon us! Time to take a look at what we’re planning to cover!

Content

“Ahem…”

Relax, I’m getting to it. Let’s get this out of the way first. There are no current plans for new content on the site… technically. I mean… there are no immediate plans. There’s plenty of stuff we wanna do, but we can’t yet. Because we’re waiting on some art assets for Bulletoon (and the site in general). So yeah. As the most recent episode made clear, there is a Bulletoon project on the horizon. But it can’t happen until we have a few more art assets. So you SAO fans will have to hang tight for a while. I probably have a few months yet before I have to succumb to peer pressure, at long last.

As for Overwatch, the first video of our new series will be out sometime this month. It’s been written. The gameplay is recorded. I just have to do the voiceover and editing and it’ll be set.

Social Media

In case it’s not obvious, I’ve been a little more active on Twitter. But there’s nothing truly new to report, on that front.

Conventions & Events

Riiight, so I recently attended Baltimore Comic-Con and it was really fun! The problem was that I forgot I was going to be attending, so it put me behind on a lot of work. But still. It was a great experience. Learned a lot, got some cool comics I’d love to share with you guys soon. All indie stuff. So yeah. Looking forward to that.

Site Maintenance

As with Bulletoon, I’m presently waiting for art assets so we can upgrade the site’s look. Otherwise, there’s not much to update you guys on, still. The dangers of hiring busy and/or flakey artists, I suppose. But eh. We’re not overly worried about it, for now. We just don’t like rolling out new stuff without everything being… well… more or less perfect. Tis our greatest strength and our most devastating weakness.

Schedule

“Oi.”

All right, all right. I hear ya. Let’s get to it. Now that the Fall Anime Season is upon us, let’s have a look-see at what EvilBob and I will be covering. Unlike last season, this one is, uh… this one’s gonna be pretty loaded. There’s actually just a ton that we’re looking forward to watching so narrowing the list down was… rough, to say the least. But that’s okay. As per usual, we’re taking this opportunity to switch things up a bit and work on a bit of a new way to do things. Nothing radically different, but you’ll see. For now, here’s the list.

EvilBob’s List

SSSS.Gridman (Oct. 7)
Golden Kamuy 2nd Season (Oct. 8)
Conception (Oct. 10)
Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru! (Oct. 5)
Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san (Oct. 5)
Beelzebub-jou no Okinimesu mama. (Oct. 11)
Akanesasu Shoujo (Oct. 1)
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind (Oct. 6)

Voyager’s List

Toaru Majutsu no Index III (Oct. 5)
Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai (Oct. 4)
Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken (Oct. 1)
Yagate Kimi ni Naru (Oct. 5)
Radiant (Oct. 6)
Release the Spyce (Oct. 7)
Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara (Oct. 6)
Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet (Oct. 6)

As you can see, there’s a whopping sixteen anime on this list. Many of which even overlap with each other. Naturally, when we saw the sheer volume of stuff we just couldn’t put down, we both looked to one another and broke down into a hysterical fit of tears. But then we picked ourselves up, resigned to our fate… yeah. That’s it…

Note that we haven’t produced an actual schedule yet. This is largely because a lot of the time these shows fall into time-slots that aren’t necessarily the same as when they actually premiere. So we’ll update the schedule once we know for certain when to expect things to regularly air.

Now. The first (kinda) new thing is that EvilBob and I will both be producing First Impression articles (Bob will have to do two, due to the spread of when his shows will be premiering). Then we’ll pick up the following week with the regular stuff. But then there’s the more exciting new stuff which is a new way we’re going to be handling the season. So let’s all talk about AniMatchup.

Sixteen Enter, One Will Leave

Yeah, that. This season, Bob and I decided to have a little fun. Since we’re covering so much anime, why not pit them against one another, tournament style? Brackets and all. It’ll be fun. Sort of a competition to see which one of us chose the best anime of the season. And before you ask, yes. We were so desperate to get rid of some of these anime, we made a game out of it. We figured it’d be more fun, that way. Plus, we’re probably still gonna watch ’em. That way, if we make a mistake in cutting something, you’ll hear about it in the Season End Review.

So! How will we be handling this? Well, as you can see, we both have eight anime between us. So what we’ll do is cull this list down by the month. First up we’ll have our Selection Battle period. Essentially the same thing as qualifiers. For the first month, each show on our list is only competing with the other shows on our respective lists. At the end of the month, we knock off four, leaving us with a total of eight anime between us. And that’s when the real fun happens. The following month, the lists start to compete with one another. We determine the brackets and at the end of the month, another culling brings us down to the final four. Then, come December, a double feature. Halfway through the month, we hold the semifinals, leaving us with just two to decide on at the end of the month. That’s right, it’s our job to analyze their story, animation, and plot to see who would win an Anime Battle… huh. That sounds oddly familiar…

Oh yeah. For anyone who actually cared, by the way, yes. I am still covering Black Clover. I’ve made it this far. May as well stick with it. Oh, and one other thing. There’s going to be a bit of a unique circumstance on my list, in particular. As you can see, I’m covering A Certain Magical Index III. There’s just one problem with that. I haven’t covered the first two seasons. Which would involve rewatching them. So I’m gonna have to do that first. As a result, that show actually won’t be appearing in my reviews for the first few weeks because I have that to work out. Oh, and by the way, there’s still another full-series review scheduled even ahead of those. So yeah. Three full-series reviews are due out in October from yours truly. Let it never be said that I don’t give you guys anything.

Oh, but that’s not the end of the fun. Because completely removed of all this is another lil surprise. See, I’ve personally been wracking my brain over what anime I feel like watching and covering. And it was suggested to me by a few people that I do it with a poll. Novel idea, right? So let’s try it! Here I’ve put together a pair of polls. Each one compiled of a list of anime, some of which I’ve seen and feel like rewatching, others I haven’t even touched.

What can ya do?

The first poll is for an “older” series to add to Weekly Anime Redux as a regular thing. Covering older episodes of the show along with the current season. The second poll is a little more labor intensive, as it covers a number of series I’ve been thinking about doing full-series reviews for… aaafter the three I’ve already got lined up. Those sound fun? Cool. In that case, here they go. Hm… how long should these stay open? I’ll say… two weeks. That sound good? Yeah, cool. Two weeks, it is.

What Completed Series Would You Like To See Among The New Ones In Weekly Anime Redux? [Poll]

After A Certain Magical Index I & II, What Anime Would You Like To See Get A Full Series Review In Flash Anime-tion? [Poll]

EvilBob has some other stuff he’s wanting to do as well, but we still need a little time to work out the logistics of it. So we’ll get back to you on that. In the meantime, though, that’s the plan! To briefly talk on the subject of scheduling, mine is staying more or less the same. EvilBob is keeping to his usual schtick with the individual recaps per show, which he’ll resume after the first week is over.

Patreon

As you may have noticed, we got new Patreon buttons that we put at the bottom of every page. But that’s pretty much the only thing we’ve changed, at the moment. We are planning to update the video on it but, you guessed it. Art.

Discord Server

As with just about everything else not connected to the schedule, we’re held back by art, here. And that’s about it.

The Wrap-Up

And that’s pretty much it. Everything we’ve got in the pipeline for the next few months. Nothing left to say except “that’s all, folks!” Thanks for reading, as always! Keep up the Awesome!

Take Care,
C. Voyage

Sounds like you guys are going to be super busy with those watch lists and everything else. Best of luck and I look forward to seeing how your tournament turns out and which anime ends up winning.

If we use this time as evidence I think Voyager is gonna win. But It’s possible one of mine could win. It’s gonna be fun to see what happens.
