Last stop: Magic(?) sharks, lots of death, and a bittersweet ending. How Evil is the 12th and final episode of Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion?

And I thought the last episode was a rollercoaster ride. Dang, that was a lot of death. I’m a little surprised that anyone made it out alive, although not many did. I’m also a little curious if they’re planning on continuing these series, due to the Mongols only being partly through with their invasion. I’m not sure I’d watch it. Just curious if that’s the plan. Anyway, let’s delve into this final episode.

It all starts with Kuchii sleeping with the fishes and a magic shark appears? I think it’s supposed to be some kind of deity but I’m not entirely sure. It doesn’t really do anything to help unless it’s the thing causing Kuchii to have flashbacks for whatever reason. While Kuchii is reliving his past, the Islanders and the last living exiles are getting murdered without him. And like the rest of the exiles they die, but not without putting up a fight.

I’m not complaining, but I would’ve liked to know the exiles a bit more before they died. The ones that were developed weren’t handled as well as they could’ve been. Yes, I’m also talking about the supposed death of the pirate guy. Why did he get killed off screen? He was the second best fighter on the Islanders’ side and one of my favorites. I’m just a little miffed about that one. I’m not okay with the kid’s death either. He’s never been caught until this episode. It seems like he only got caught so they could kill him off.

Those deaths are my only real gripe with this. Things could’ve been a lot worse. I thought it was amusing how the first survivor he ran into was the kid that wants to kill him. That might be my favorite moment in the series. I’m curious if that kid will try to kill him in the future and if he’ll succeed. Kuchii grabbing the sword and killing Mongols as they were withdrawing was awesome.

Then there was that reveal of the pirate’s fate… yeah, still miffed. That fight with the general was pretty awesome though. I loved how at the end his own men let Kuchii walk right up to him. I still love that Kuchii survived the whole ordeal and the best part is, so did Teruhi. Kano her ninja-like vassal saved her life. She hid Teruhi from the Mongols by knocking her out and hiding her.

We don’t know what happened to Kano after she got caught other than she got raped. Teruhi doesn’t find her body so I assume the Mongols took her with them. I think that may be worse than death. Teruhi eventually reunites with Kuchii after everything is over and they are joined by islanders who also survived.

Overall I’d say this episode was about as Evil as a Killer Robot Army (8). I’m still miffed about the pirate’s death but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the episode. I’d say the entire show is the same ranking. It’s nothing special but it’s good enough to watch at least once.
