Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion Episode 8 Recap | Is It Evil?

The bad guys close in and a new traitor gets a double-kill. There’s an awful lot of backstabbing going on in this show. How Evil is the 8th episode of Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion?

Okay, I’m going to take events a little out of order because it’ll make this easier to talk about. Son first up let’s go over the possible traitor from the last episode. Turns out the silver badge is a Mongol pass meaning he’s a filthy traitor. The bearded exile actually stays to hear the guy out too. That got me a whole lot of worried. I was suspecting he would be killed before he could say more but no, that’s not what happened at all.

The story is supposed to make us feel for this traitor while the visuals show us why he deserves to die. For example, he tells the story of his arriving at a fishing village and being invited into a certain family’s home. But the visuals show him bust down the door to the house while groping a woman’s breast and wondering why he got attacked.

Long story short, the villagers knocked him out and tied him up. If it wasn’t for the Mongols this guy most likely would’ve been killed by the villagers. The Mongols freed him and gave him the pass, promising him rewards for his service. And now he’s trying to recruit someone he knows. It’s nothing like the villagers who were trying to save their families a while back. This guy is doing it for the money and whatever else he can get.

Unfortanly for him the bearded exile doesn’t share his reasoning and refuses his offer. That goes about as well as you might expect it to. The traitor tries to kill the bearded exile but gets killed in the process. Then one of the divers from before spots the scene and questions the bearded exile about what happened. He explains it to her and then kills her on the spot, taking the pass with him and in response to the traitor’s proposition, he simply says…

He just wouldn’t work with the other guy apparently. I can’t really blame him for that but why the heck did he have to kill the lady? He could’ve let her got to tell the others and told her he’s going to make sure the Mongols weren’t nearby or something along those lines. It seems like they’re just dragging things along, but don’t take my word for it, I’m not the only one who had some things to say about it.

Anyway, Kuchii didn’t do all that much this episode. He got to know the locals in a sparring match and decided to help fortify the castle. With a traitor in their midst, I’m not sure how well those new defenses are going to hold out. Especially with the Mongols already at their doorstep.

Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion

Overall I’d say this episode is about as Evil as a Killer Robot Army (8). At its core, there is an interesting story here. It does tend to get dragged out a bit more than it needs to and the filter is still killing my eyes but it’s enjoyable nonetheless. This anime is enjoyable in its own way but it just keeps giving itself hurdles to jump over. That filter is still hideous. Sometimes visuals like that become easier to take as a show progresses but this one has remained really ugly and distracting. And they’ve definitely been stretching things out. Still, I remain interested in how this story will end so I do kind of look forward to the next episode.

Yeah, I can’t bring my self to drop it. I think I know how it’ll end but I want to see if they will fool me by doing something unexpected.

If you are thinking everyone is going to die, I’m with you on that one. It would be nice for them to shake it up a bit, but it kind of looks like reinforcements aren’t getting there in time.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking. I want them to live but this is based on actual events, things based on actual war events don’t tend to end well. Of course there’s always the chance that they’ll use their artistic license to change the ending.

At least I’m not the only one thinking the situation is pretty hopeless. I’m honestly okay with that, I think I’d prefer things to run their natural course than for some deus ex machina style ending. That said, if we could get some kind of twist that would logically save some of them, that could be cool.

I think if they are saved it’ll be the last possible moment. Remember that scene from the beginning? I think someone might shield Kuchii at the last moment. If they all do die I think their last stand is going to be epic. I don’t see them dying without taking a lot of Mongols with them.
