Well, the capital has become a hot location and Kuchii builds a fort with the Mongols. How Evil is the 5th episode of Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion?

Well, the plan to return to the capital is up in smoke. Literally, the Mongols burned it to the ground as soon as the episode started. To be fair it was pretty easy to see coming. The Islanders were acting like they would be perfectly fine as long as they could get back to the capital. It seems like they were under the impression that the Mongols wouldn’t attack the capital at all. That’s a nice thought and all but they got proven wrong the hard way.
While investigating the ruined capital Kuchii and the islanders spotted five scouts in the area. Oh, I almost forgot the capital itself got attacked by a second Mongol force that the islanders had no idea about. That means the Islanders have been surrounded from the start. And to make matters worse Teruhi loses her crap and kills two of the scouts with headshots.
Her outburst is not what alerted the Mongols though. Kuchii says that the scouts had already spotted them so killing them was a good thing, unfortunately, one of the horses got away. With that horse safely away Kuchii begins to plan for the impending Mongol attack. His plan like last time is brilliant. This time he’s going to build a fort and the Mongols are going to help.
How will he get them to help? Well, it goes like this. He’s going to lure them onto a narrow cliff and stack their bodies to form a wall of flesh. It’s a lot more complicated to than that but it’s a good enough description of what his plan is. Oh, he makes use of a cliff with a corner and he has archers and spearmen to help with the ambush. The archers pick some off from a distance while the spearmen handle closer targets from below.
The plan goes on without a hitch until the Mongol grenadiers appear. It’s neat how effective explosions are even during this era. I forgot they even had grenade type weapons in this era. The battle stays about the same, some of the guys in Kuchii’s group survived these bombs before and none of his men are afraid of them now.
While his men are doing great Kuchii and a general are forced to go back to back to defend the corner. It’s not looking good and I have a feeling the general is about to bite it next episode or so. I do think they will win this fight or at least put a good hurting on the Mongols but I could be completely wrong.
Overall I’d say it’s about as Evil a Killer Robot Army (8). It’s consistent at least, but it’s far from the best anime this season. Keep It Classy,
I’ve been consistently enjoying this story week to week. I don’t think I’d ever come back and watch it again, and that filter continues to make it really ugly to look at, but the story has been compelling and the battle this week was interesting even with the dip in animation quality. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it.
Yeah that filter is garbage. I most likely wont be rewatching it either. It seems like a one time only show to me. If it didn’t have that filter i might be able to rewatch it but it hurts my eyes.
