Hakyu Hoshin Engi – Episodes 18 – 19 Recap (Is It Evil?)

Is this the end or just the beginning? How Evil are episodes 18 and 19 of Hakyu Hoshin Engi?

Well, Bunchuu just lost his best men. Now back to the raging battle. Last time, Fugen tried to negotiate with Bunchuu and failed miserably. Fugen still tried to do that in this episode, but he put up one heck of a defense while trying to talk Bunchuu down. He uses his computer-like weapon to block Bunchuu’s first few attacks and he made it look easy too.

Unfortunately, Bunchuu wasn’t really fazed by Fugen’s awesome defense instead he adopted the hit him even harder approach and broke Fugen’s defense like it was nothing. With his defense broken Fugen used his nuclear fusion attack to blow Bunchuu up. This also didn’t work, leading up to what seemed like another pointless death but it never made it that far. As Bunchuu’s final attack moved toward Fugen, cyclones of wind blocked the attack.

But who controls wind? If you have to ask that you haven’t been watching the show. The hero is none other than Taikoubou. They never explain how he fought off the effects of the sleeping drug, but I’m just glad Fugen isn’t going to die a pointless death. That was all of the important stuff for episode 18.

Episode 19 got us right back into the battle with Fugen and Taikoubou countering Bunchuu’s every move. Their teamwork was solid during the first part of the fight. They even managed to stall long enough for the rest of the team to arrive. Knowing that the nuclear fusion didn’t work, the team uses all their powers combined in what I can only describe as a Mystic Arte to cause a massive explosion that put the nuclear attack to shame.

Of course Bunchuu’s sort of a big deal so it had no effect on him. It did make him start taking the fight seriously. He decided to descend. I guess he just likes having his feet on the ground. I do have to talk about his reasons for doing this now too. At least they make some sense now. I’m not saying that his reasons are perfect. I still think he’s dumber than he should be. But his whole “no one wants to see their child die” thing makes sense.

Anyway, back to the fight. Bunchuu causally allows two of Taikoubou’s allies to charge him at the same time. Taikoubou and Fugen shield the attackers but they get cut into bits anyway. That is the episode ended I’m guessing the next few episodes are going to be one long fight scene. I mean just look at the dude. He’s fired up.

Overall I’d say these episodes are about as Evil as a Politician (7). Things are starting to make a lot more sense now but I’m still not enjoying this as much as I could and I have my doubts that will change. If you are looking for something else to read check out CVoyage’s reviews for Cutie Honey Universe. Well, that’s all I have for you today. Thanks for letting me waste your time, people.
