Last Period: Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari – Episodes 5 – 6 Recap (Is It Evil?)

The love of Gacha is the root of all stupid this time.  How Evil are the fifth and sixth episodes of Last Period: Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari?

Genre: Magic, Comedy

Remember what I said about Haru in the last recap? I take it all back now. Episode five was set up like a documentary. A camera crew followed around Haru’s group, recording their daily activities. My explanation sounds boring, but this episode was hilarious. It continued the whole money wasting theme from the previous episodes but took it in a whole new direction.

Haru being the only one to still have money decides to spend it on calls. If you haven’t been watching this show until now, calls summon 1 to 5-star heroes to help whoever calls them. Basically, it’s every Gacha game ever, which makes sense seeing how this show is based on one. Anyway, Haru decides to convert a portion of his funds to the currency to make calls. If you’ve seen the first episode you already know how this is going to go. Haru ends up wasting all of his money on calls.

Behold the face of a broken man.

That was all that really happened in episode five. Episode six was just as entertaining. It followed Campanella as she tried to keep her identity as the Wiseman leader a secret while escorting both Haru’s group and the Wisemen to an amusement park run by witches. Yes, it’s as cool as it sounds.

Campanella was funny to watch, She kept making excuses that she has to go to the bathroom or she’s going to see an old friend and for what it’s worth she does a good job until both groups end up sitting next to each other during a show. She came up with an interesting solution to her problem.

No, they didn’t notice.

Oh, I almost forgot. Some monsters attacked the show. And that’s how Campanella got out of this predicament. After that madness, she escorted both teams back home successfully. We still have no idea what Campanella plans on doing with Wisemen or why she’s so intent on having them stalk Haru’s team.

It also seems odd that Campanella’s apparently loaded with money though. I’m not sure if she’s the one that stole from the guild but it’s suspicious. Choco was oddly quiet throughout both of these episodes. She said a lot more during episode six but was only talking about the weird and slightly disturbing snack flavors she wanted to try at the amusement park.

Overall I’d say these episodes are about as Evil as a Villian (9). The only joke that we’ve really seen repeated is what I call the Gacha gag. None of the other jokes have stayed around long enough to get old. That being said, the Gacha gag changes a little everytime we see it too. If you want something that’s a little less childish checkout CVoyage’s reviews for Cutie Honey Universe. Well, that’s all I have for you today. Thanks for letting me waste your time, people.
