Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Episode 17 | It’s Aliiive! | Evil Anime-tion

In other news, water is wet and people die if they are killed.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card
Studio: Madhouse
Genre: Magical Girl

EvilBob: Well. I finally believe it, dude?

CVoyage: What?

EvilBob: That sweets and junk food can kill me.

CVoyage: …THAT was your takeaway?

EvilBob: Did you see the thing?! Food that’s hungry for human?! That ain’t right, man! There’s a natural order to things! That’s gonna keep me up all night! There are some things that magic should stay away from! Sweets is one of them!

CVoyage: To be fair, you should be totally fine.

EvilBob: Why?

CVoyage: Well as long as you don’t say anything to the effect of “They look so cute! There’s no way they can be dangerous!”

CVoyage:

EvilBob:

CVoyage: So that happened.

EvilBob: But I guess we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves?

CVoyage: Ya don’t say. How ’bout we talk about the real shocker of the episode?

EvilBob: That Momo’s alive?

CVoyage: Hell no. That was obvious. The cameo from Rika! It was nice seeing her again, dude.

EvilBob: Oh yeah! It was! I wish we’d gotten a little more than just a tiny cameo with her, though.

CVoyage: Yeah. Anyway, I guess we should talk a little about Momo… So. For starters. It’s definitely a she. So there’s that. And, true to the ED, she’s big on sweets.

EvilBob: We also know for sure that Akiho has no idea what those two are up to. Did you get the feeling they were protecting her from something?

CVoyage: I dunno. Didn’t really care to theorize about it. I just got the impression that Kaito is definitely behind the cards in some way. Or, rather, that he needs them for whatever reason. Meaning I expect he’s gonna try to get them from Sakura at some point. S’about it, though.

EvilBob: Well, that leaves us with one question. Why?

CVoyage: *shrug*

EvilBob: …You have no theories at all?

CVoyage: Nope.

EvilBob: …You’re no fun at all.

CVoyage: Nope.

EvilBob: …You… weren’t supposed to agree with that.

CVoyage: Nope.

EvilBob: …Stop that.

CVoyage: Whatever. So me and my unfun self will just be skipping over the extended cooking session.

EvilBob: What?! Blasphemy! You can never talk too much about food!

CVoyage: Someone’s waistline disagrees.

EvilBob: …That’s cold, dude.

CVoyage: I didn’t say it was you.

EvilBob:

CVoyage:

EvilBob: So the evil cakes. After they all come alive, by their powers combine, they form one super mega cake! Of Doom.

CVoyage: Naturally, it chases Sakura and Tomoyo around the school. I find it interesting how they saw fit to whisper while the cakes were small, then as soon as the cakes merged, it was nothing by screaming and the cake crashing through everything.

EvilBob: Hey. At least they were all asleep.

CVoyage: …riiight. Well, anyway, Sakura has a clever idea and pulls out the Flight card. So as long as she doesn’t say anything stupid like “it can’t get us up here!” she should be-

CVoyage:

EvilBob:

CVoyage: Goddammit, Sakura…

EvilBob: So, naturally, the demon cake from hell grows wings and chases Sakura through the sky. You know. Like ya do.

CVoyage: But it’s okay because Sakura has the Deus-es-Spiral Card that somehow turns the cake into a donut hole… Okay. Sure. We’ll pretend that’s how that worked before.

EvilBob: She basically used it as Siege-lite.

CVoyage: …Yeah, pretty much. I mean, I guess that’s kinda to make up for how much she’s been using Siege? But still… huh? Also, can we talk about this one? The “Appear” card? Can someone explain, to me, how this is different from Action?

EvilBob: If it’s only power is to make demon food, I’m out.

CVoyage: …Dude.

EvilBob: Natural. Order.

CVoyage: …So anyway, Syaoran shows up and it’s all cute and stuff. Though I kinda gotta wonder where he was in the first place. But whatever. Best Girl got her moment.

CVoyage: Though, now that I think about it…

EvilBob: What?

CVoyage: It’s kinda been a while since we got a new costume. Like… the last one we got was waaay back in episode 11.

EvilBob: Huh. Best Girl is slipping.

CVoyage: I’d be careful about saying that out loud.

EvilBob: What? Why?

CVoyage: Best Girl is watching. Best Girl hears everything. Always.

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card

EvilBob: …Forgive me.

CVoyage: Anyway, Akiho. Kaito does something to her after they talk for a little bit. I’m sure this one’s all bouncing with theories, so I’ll let him have the floor. Oi. You’re up.

EvilBob: Roger! Well, it seems that Kaito is protecting Akiho from something. My guess is that her powers are out of control and Kaito is using Sakura to fix that. That’s why he’s secretly rooting for her getting the cards and why they showed up so randomly. Also, I think he might be concealing Sakura’s regular cards so she has to capture these new ones. Not sure about the staff, though. In the dreams, Akiho’s clearly always after the staff. Well, whatever. We’ll see if I’m actually right about any of this or they somehow prove me wrong.

CVoyage: Yes. “Somehow.”

EvilBob: …Shut up, Chris.

CVoyage: Anyway, this episode makes it clear that the show’s finally ready to start advancing the plot. Makes sense. There are only, like, 7 or 8 episodes left. It was compounded with some amusing humor, especially towards the beginning-

EvilBob: One word – Apron.

CVoyage: Right. That. So with all that in mind, I’d totally say the episode was Super Effective.

EvilBob: I’d say it’s about as Evil as a Super Villain (10). Fighting food was a new one. Flying food was also kinda… weird. But, hey, it worked. Despite being an affront to the heavens themselves.

CVoyage: Get off it.

EvilBob: Fine. The capture was okay. Not the most action-packed, but, of course, it was beautiful. And overall enjoyable enough. I still can’t wait to see how my theories about Akiho and Kaito measure up. If I’m right or way off the mark.

CVoyage: “If” he’s way off the mark.

EvilBob: Hey, I’ve been close before. I mean, come on. We both know who’s behind everything. It’s totally T-

CVoyage: For more Magical Books and Romance, check out his coverage of Nil Admirari no Tenbin. It’s a thing. Not nearly as cute, though. And they don’t have a Best Girl.

I kind of felt putting the school to sleep was a little bit of a cheat on Sakura’s behalf given she didn’t have to do her usual sneak and pretend things were fine. I still want to know why none of the school’s neighbours have noticed the flying girl and giant roll cake monster though.
