Last Period: Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari – Episodes 3 – 4 Recap (Is It Evil?)

The love of money is the root of all stupid. At least in this show. How Evil are the third and fourth episodes of  Last Period: Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari?

Studio: J.C. Staff
Genre: Magic, Comedy

This show is all over the place with its jokes. Each episode has its own theme for them. Episode three, for example, was all about haunted house jokes and episode four was about winning the lottery. Three started out with Haru’s gang receiving a mission to cleanse a perfectly normal haunted mansion. Most of the gang was up to the task but Liza, who’s not afraid of ghosts or anything, doesn’t want to even enter the mansion.

When they finally go in, Liza ends up being the only one who can do anything. She even meets a nice little girl that tells her the history of the town. Soon after that, Liza and Choco team up to take down some fake ghosts. It turns out that the mansion wasn’t really being haunted. Well, at least not by a violent ghost. Remeber the little girl Liza talked to? She was the only real ghost in the mansion and she gives the team a lottery ticket. So, from Gacha to a ticket lottery. I think I see a theme here.  But Liza isn’t happy about the news that she spoke to a real ghost.

Exhibit A.

Episode four continues exactly where episode three left off. The gang is home waiting on the results for the lottery ticket. The odds are so stacked against them winning that Liza and Gajeru feel the need to keep reminded Haru that they aren’t going to win anything.  Haru is a bit more optimistic than his comrades but does admit the likelihood of them winning is really low.

However, the next very day, when the newspaper comes, the entire team eagerly awaits the results. When they first read them the numbers match but none of them seems to realize they’ve won until Choco points it out. Then it hits them all at once.

That’s it. Shows over and they all lived happily ever after… Yeah, this is a comedy that ain’t happening. Haru decides to help rebuild the office with his share of the money. Oh, look. A smart protagonist. Unlike a certain other one I know. The others, however, decide to live it up. The office gets restored past its former glory and tons of new Periods are eager to sign up. Liza and Gajeru build themselves gigantic mansions.

The newfound riches lead to the party disbanding and Haru joining Wiseman just to do something.  Meanwhile, in town, Liza and Gajeru have started a feud which threatens to make the citizens miserable. They eventually decide to put the rest of their money to better use but it’s too late.  Someone steals everything from the office and Liza and Gajeru are now broke for the same reason. Haru is still rich but most likely not for long if Choco gets her was.

Overall these episodes were about as Evil as a Villian (9). It’s just stupid fun. Episode four did have some deeper thought involved but it was still mostly silliness. It’s not the best comedy I’ve ever seen or anything but its got it’s moments. If you want something a bit more shounen, check out CVoyage’s reviews for Black Clover. It’s still going and at least it does have action so there’s that. Well, that’s all I have for you today. Thanks for letting me waste your time, people.

Keep It Classy,
Evil Bob
