Well, that was interesting. How evil are Butlers: Chitose Momotose Monogatari’s second and third episodes?

Everything seems to revolve around Jay’s missing sister. The start of this episode was a flashback of when he arrived in the future and now he wants to go back, back to the past. You just started thinking about Samurai Jack, didn’t you? (CVoyage: …or literally any other time travel story ever) It’s similar, with the whole stuck in the future thing but this is more or less modern day. Anyway, back to the recap.
Jay asked some students to “observe” Hayakawa. Apparently, the rumors about him digging up dirt on his rivals are true. His observers spread some rumors about Hayakawa and the cafe he works for. Jay then sends the student council members to dig more but they get forced into being butlers for a day and the rumors get reversed quickly.
That’s pretty much where episode two ended. At the beginning of episode three, Jay and the members of the student council have been tasked with organizing a festival of some kind. Everything appears to be going smoothly until it’s discovered that the youngest member, Hotaru, might have a scandalous relationship with a teacher. Turns out the teacher is his older sister, so no harm done.
Jay decides to try and talk to Hayakawa again. He goes to the cafe and learns that Hayakawa is delivering coffee and heads out to cut him off before he can return. The two of them meet up in an abandoned arcade and they do have a brief chat. And then Jay uses his powers to slow time to kick the crap out of Hayakawa. Until Hayakawa gets serious about the fight and then Jay gets put down rather quickly.
After his getting humbled, one of the student council members discovers him while he’s out on the floor. Jay decides to take out his frustrations on the guy for no reason whatsoever. You know, I’m getting the feeling that Jay’s kind of a jerk. He’s so concentrated on getting home that he seems to have forgotten that there are people around him that want to help.
It seems that Hayakawa may be trying to get him to understand something that has yet to be revealed. If he wanted to, he could’ve killed Jay without a problem at all. That leads me to believe there’s something else going on that would maybe take both of them working together to stop or fix.
Work with Hayakawa? Never!
Overall these two episodes were about as Evil as a Killer Robot Army (8). Not a whole lot happened but things are building up. And it’s not boring. They threw in some comedy and other moments that made it entertaining. I’m not sure what they’re building up to just yet, but I’m curious about what it will be. If you’re looking for something that’s a bit more romantic and you don’t mind the occasional eye-rolling, check out CVoyage’s reviews for 3D Kanojo: Real Girl. To me, episode three was all over the place. It’s like once I was settled on one story, they jumped to another.
I somewhat disagree. Yes, they did jump around, but that thread has been there since the first episode. I’m not saying it’s a good thing but I did suspect it. I do hope they stop doing that. It can get annoying if it persists and I’m prone to drop shows that annoy me.
I agree that the thread was there. My problem was with the continuity of the episode. Did we have to see so many storylines in one episode? But, hopefully they’ll settle down.
Yeah they it did feal like a bit much.
