Please kill him, please kill him. How Evil is Mahoutsukai no Yome episode 22?
Chise’s deal with the devil may actually work out. I had guessed that she would somehow trade curses with Joseph but did they really have to trade eyes? That part was almost unwatchable for me. Although it wasn’t as bad as the baby dragon scene. But It just seems like Chise goes through so much crap for no reason at all. And if the eye trading didn’t quite turn your stomach, Chise is forced to relive parts of her past.
And this is where it gets weird. Joseph’s curse is alive, It has a consciousness that exists in Chise’s memories. But unlike Joseph, it appears to be nice. Strangeness aside Chise is forced to relive her mother’s attempt on her life as well as the following suicide. We only see the curse figure one time during the events leading up to this. It seems like he stayed out of Chise’s way on purpose. He even pointed out that all of this dream state was made to hurt Chise.
It’s odd the even the dragon’s curse pales in comparison to the evil that is Joseph. Oh before I forget. Remember the baby dragon Joseph mutilated? The poor thing is still alive. It seems he may have been trying to get cursed before the auction. That would make Chise plan B. Why is he so much smarter than some protagonist? If you want to know what I mean just go read my article from yesterday.
I think the best part of this episode is how much Chise has grown. She faced down her mother and was able to let go of the past. Not only did this show tremendous growth from the beginning of this show it also broke Joseph’s sleep spell. She was even happy when doing all of that. It was all so sweet.
And then made a deal with the curse and woke up. Now, I’m not entirely sure what the curse really wants, but Joseph has some explaining to do. I think it wants to know why he’s been killing and mutilating people. It said something about wanting to know why “they” keep asking for help. I assume it is referring to all of Joseph’s victims
It doesn’t really matter what it wants at this point. I think Chise is a little angry anyway. You know judging by the fact that she has been using the Darth Vader choke hold on him since she woke up. I do wonder what ol Ashen Eye is doing during all of this. He was clearly visible with Joseph before. Maybe he helped him get this far? We have two more episodes to find out. I do hope Chise squeezes Joseph’s neck a little harder.
Overall I would say this episode was about as Evil as a Super Villian (10). It might have made me uncomfortable but Chise choking Joseph made it worth it. If you want something a with a little more action check out CVoyage’s reviews for Toji no Miko. It’s at the halfway point right now. Check it out if you get the chance. Well, that’s all I have for you today. Thanks for letting me waste your time, people.
