Hakyu Hoshin Engi – Episode 8 Recap (Is It Evil?)

I should’ve expected this. I shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up. How Evil is Hakyu Hoshin Engi episode 8?

We got to see a little bit of Dakki’s backstory this time although she really didn’t do much in this episode. Apparently, she took over a human girl named Dakki. And to make matters worse, we learned she has sisters. That’s one of the most disturbing things that they’ve revealed so far. But that’s all we really learned before the opening of the episode.

Youzen’s battle continues as soon as the opening ends. I have to say that was weird. And it was over almost as quick as it started. Youzen killed his enemy off-screen like any good hero should. Then we get the bat-looking guy’s backstory. I found this part pretty boring. It seemed like they were just using his backstory to waste time.

And here’s when I start getting a little pissed. The bat-guy tells Youzen the reason why he’s on Dakki’s side. The short version? It’s all Dakki’s fault. She broke his mind and then became a mother figure to him. You would expect him to be a little unhinged but he appears to be fine.

Meanwhile, outside, Taikoubou has resorted to his favorite method of failure, charge the enemy. Mind you, the enemies shield is still up and their main weapon is charging. (CV: Hey. It works for Reinhardt) One of his allies even tells him it’s a dumb idea. But the rest seem to be okay with death. I want to point out they do have the option to dodge the next blast. It has yet to show any kind of aiming speed. They don’t even bring up the idea to dodge or to fall back even once.

And here’s one other thing. Taikoubou and Youzen don’t really know each other. It’s okay to trust an ally but you should always have a plan B. For some reason, Taikoubou has tunnel vision. His biggest failing is that he can’t seem to get that his first plan might fail. In this case, maybe it wasn’t the best idea to rely solely on someone he didn’t really know.

Youzen doesn’t turn off the shield. So, that flying mountain rams an energy shield and starts exploding. No wonder those future flashes show Taikoubou’s allies turning on him. He’s an idiot. You know it’s hard to enjoy a show when the protagonist can’t seem to get it together. It’s about as Evil as a Superhero! (0) There’s a chance that future episode may change my mind but I doubt it. If you want a show that isn’t a colossal waste of time, check out our reviews for Karakai Jozu no Takagi-san. It’s guaranteed to at least make you smile. Well, that’s all I have for you today. Thanks for letting me waste your time, people.

Keep It Classy,
Evil Bob
