Well, that’s not good. How Evil is Mahoutsukai No Yome episode 21?

The search for a cure continues, as Elias and Chise meet the witches. It was pretty cool that the witches use what seemed like a dream world for their meeting. I’m guessing that’s a much safer way to communicate than meeting somewhere in the real world. Anyway, it seems the witches are in need of help as well.

Their “moderator” has been cursed and is either becoming a tree or is fused to one.  That’s why Mariel was so eager to acquire dragon blood at the auction. It’s also why when that failed she wanted to recruit Chise. They wish to exchange information so they can cure their leader. Their leader scolds Mariel for her actions and tells Elias that they have no way to cure Chise. Mariel does manage to slip Elias a message before they leave though.

Not going to lie, that message scared me too. The only way Mariel knows to cure Chise is to sacrifice another life to save hers. I was afraid Elias might do something stupid with that information I was wrong, for the most part. The first thing he did do was go to the college to investigate. I assume he was looking for another way, but he didn’t manage to find one.

After his first plan failed that’s when he did something stupid. You see Elias was still a little jealous of Stella. Stella is a young healthy girl, I think you know where this is going now. Elias kidnaps her just so he can sacrifice her to save Chise. Of course, Joseph shows up just to mock him using Stella as a puppet to rub it in even more. Chise arrive just in time for Joseph to put in a little show for her.

If you can it didn’t go over well with Chise. In fact, she punched Elias so hard her knuckles were bleeding. She then gave chase to what she thought was a scared Stella. Chise was shocked to learn that Joseph had possed the girl. Joseph gave Chise a choice, she could come with him and he would free Stella or He would kill Stella and take Chise anyway. He didn’t state that last part, but it’s pretty obvious he was going to anyway.

On an interesting note, he did promise to teach her a spell to stop her from dying, so there’s that. knowing Joseph there’s some kind of terrible catch to his offer. Chise willing agreed to go with Joseph even going as far as removing the pendant that allows Elias to track her. I have a bad feeling about the next episode. This guy mutilated a baby I don’t want to know what he has planned for Chise.

Overall this episode was about as Evil as a Super Villian (10). It may get dark every once in awhile, but there is always something light-hearted of funny to lighten it up. We have three episodes left so I’m optimistic.
