Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card – Episode 7 Review (Evil Anime-tion)

Well… so much for just about every theory we’ve thrown out so far.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card
Studio: Madhouse
Genre: Magical Girl

EvilBob: Well, we were right about one thing. Looots more Tomoyo, this go around.

CVoyage: I am completely okay with this.

EvilBob: It seems her plans are coming to fruition sooner than we-

CVoyage: Bob. Remember who controls your review slate.

EvilBob: …Okay, that’s not even fair.

CVoyage: Hey, Bob, guess what.

EvilBob: You don’t care…

CVoyage: Hey, you’re learning! Moving on.

EvilBob: *grumble*…

CVoyage: Best girl is back and proving exactly what makes us love her so much.

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card

EvilBob: So. Many. Costumes.

CVoyage: Seriously. Where does she find the time?

EvilBob: Aha! You’re asking the right questions, at last. Yes, where does Tomoyo get all that time?

CVoyage: Seriously? Again with this?

EvilBob: You see, it all makes sense now. The clocks in the dreams, the outrageous outfit that that other person was wearing, her mysterious absence from most of the captures. Everything adds up to one overwhelming conclusion!

CVoyage: That you’re a crackpot?

EvilBob: That I’m a cra- I mean… That Tomoyo is the one behind it all!

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card

“I’m sure I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

CVoyage: Let’s see… what’s coming next season that looks reeeally bad?

EvilBob: You wouldn’t!

CVoyage: Dies Irae.

EvilBob: Crap, you would.

CVoyage: The bit with the drone was especially funny. That girl is obsessed. Also… just as much of a troll as ever. Granted, Sakura and Syaoran are unbelievably gullible and easily manipulated, but come on. They know she intentionally gets them to blush, just so she can snag pictures… and she still got away with it three times. In, like, five minutes!

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card

She’s totally doing that on purpose.

EvilBob: But this wouldn’t be Cardcaptor Sakura without… well… card capturing. And we actually get a pretty interesting one, this time. But, um…

CVoyage: Yeah, it… it kinda throws out nearly every working theory we had. A card that doesn’t seem malicious in any way?

EvilBob: Sooo, now we’re back to the Test theory?

CVoyage: That or the cards just having minds of their own. I do like how this one was more friendly though. Almost felt like Ash capturing a Pokemon.

EvilBob: Yeah, but the lead-up was still a lot of fun. Loved seeing how she used Gravitation to get around that maze… that Tomoyo inexplicably has… in her backyard.

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card

“Why *pant* Does she have *pant* a MAZE?”

CVoyage: Bob…

EvilBob: Not a theory! Just saying. Being rich has its perks.

CVoyage: Uh huh… Speaking of perks, I think Syaoran leveled up his offensive magic. Seriously, what was up with that?! That was awesome! Completely useless, but awesome!

EvilBob: Eh. Maybe he’s just off his game.

CVoyage: How convenient…

EvilBob: Oh, but the Record card was pretty neat.

CVoyage: Yup. Could be useful for making holographic decoys at some point.

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card

EvilBob: Yeah. Actually, there could be a lot of cool applications for that. But I think that best part is her having a flight card again.

CVoyage: Incidentally, she finally has a flight card actually called Flight. Took ’em a while to get around to that one.

EvilBob: And it’s an adorable little bow, so you know Tomoyo’s gonna have to design an outfit around it.

CVoyage: Looking forward to seeing her put it to use. Next episode’s gonna be pretty interesting too. Oh, look. Akiho moved into the same house that Eriol used to live in.

EvilBob: It’s almost like they’re trying to tell us something. The same something they’ve been slapping us in the face with since she showed up.

CVoyage: Gee. I wonder what direction they could be taking this in

EvilBob: The suspense is killing us…

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card

“Yeah! Us too!” …oh dear.

CVoyage: Anyway, this was a fun episode overall. It was funny, Tomoyo’s antics were as amusing as ever, and I actually liked the card’s more friendly nature. Watching her chase it around was pretty cool, but I dug how they made a thing out of her being more friendly with it as opposed to just trying to force it the way she usually does. It was a charmingly Super Effective episode, and I’m glad things have picked up from the last two.

EvilBob: I’d say this episode is as Evil as… a Super Villain (10). It was funny seeing her just chilling at Tomoyo’s house again. And the card was really cool. I like how it was kinda shapeless, in a way. Still wondering if there’ll be more she has to be friendly with in order to capture. In the past they’ve accidentally antagonized some friendly cards, so I gotta wonder if this is her learning her lesson from that. “C’mon and play. Nothing but friendship and fun times, here.”

CVoyage: Or, if you’re still loving the return of this classic, check it out on Crunchyroll. Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card is Simulcast Saturdays at 8:00pm EST.

EvilBob: That’s pretty much all we’ve got for you today. Thanks for letting us waste your time, people.

CVoyage: As always, thanks for reading, folks. Remember to keep up the awesome.

EvilBob: And keep it classy.

CVoyage: Take care.
