Can I drop this? I really want to drop this one. How Evil is Hakyu Hoshin Engi episode 4?

When we last left off Taikoubou was on a quest to overthrow Daki. This quest is gonna take awhile. Taikoubou was finally able to meet with the man who will become king if they succeed. We get his backstory too, he and the other four let’s call them “governors”  were summoned by Daki to attend a “party.” At this party, they are given a choice submit to Daki or die.

The Old man chose to defy her but was saved when Hiko stepped in. The old man was imprisoned instead. His son eventually arrived to beg for his release, Daki tries to control the young man but he resists her at every turn. If you know anything about Daki you already know if she can’t control you she’ll kill you instead. She calls the young man out and does just that, then we get treated to a scene from a cooking show and She’s making Hamburg whatever that is.

If you’re thinking that was oddly placed I wouldn’t blame you. But ask yourself, where did she get the meat?  Yes, that’s the person she just killed or what’s left of him. This is the main reason I want to drop this series. We already know how evil Daki is. We don’t need further proof to hate her. That being said at least this isn’t done through dialogue like a lot of shows have been doing lately.

After what is the most disturbing part of the episode we finally get to see what is happening with Hiko. Hiko and what’s left of his family, clan, or whatever are trying t exit the country that Daki rules. Hiko and clan appear to be ready for anything until Daki’s men reveal that they have Hiko’s dad hostage because of course, they do.

Taikoubou’s boss sends him a message as well as some much-needed backup. Nataku has returned. He has apparently completed his training in two episodes that’s impressive considering the genre. He has also acquired a few new weapons by beating the crud out of his master/creator.

After a very brief briefing Taikoubou and Nataku race of to save Hiko. Luckily Taikoubou’s boss sent more reinforcements to help out. Enter the swordsman Tenka. Tenka just happens to be Hiko’s second son as well as an immortal wielding a lightsaber. He’s just cool okay. He saves his dad and buys enough time for the others to arrive.

I have some major gripes with this show now. first off why is Daki so freaking evil? We have seen what she does but absolutely nothing on why she does all of this. If she is just evil for evil’s sake at least cut down on showing her do things like making people burgers.  Second, why are we still getting future scenes this far in? We don’t need to see the future before it happens. You just gave away Hiko’s going to die.

If they would fix those things I wouldn’t complain. The action so far has been passible at least, but come on, fix the story.  Okay, that’s over. Overall I would say this episode is about as Evil as a Henchman (5). It’s still for the most part fun, even the cooking scene was until I realized she was cooking a person.
