Finally looks like all that build up is going to produce some payoff. How evil is RWBY volume 5 episode 12?
RWBY
Studio: Rooster Teeth
Genre: Action, Fantasy, Science Fiction
Remember last time, when Wiess got “fatally” wounded? Well, she’s all better now. Jaune unleashed his Semblance and healed her. Gee, it’s almost like the game hinted at this by giving him nothing but support abilities. At least the teammate death rate should drop. Still pretty terrible that it took another teammate almost dying to make him use it in the first place.
Anyway, the fighting didn’t stop with Jaune’s awakening. Cinder, Raven, and the maiden went into the vault, leaving the big guy, Leo, and forgettable underlings one and two (Emerald and Mercury) to deal with Oz and his team. The Big guy gets really unhinged when he learns that Oscar is Ozpin and injects himself with a raw substance. Yes, I’m aware I’m making this sound worse than it is. But come on, he just used dust like steroids.
Oz’s team engage in battle and things aren’t going that great for them. Oz is being forced to fight the steroid-using big guy and he has to fight defensively. Yang had to fight Emerald and Mercury at the same time, why? Ruby was busy checking on Weiss. Nora and Rinn just sat there and did nothing… Why are three members not helping at all? Ruby did eventually join Yang but we didn’t get to see her do anything of note yet. Seems like the trend of being scrubs isn’t over yet.
In the vault, Cinder tries to drain the maidens powers and kill Raven. So yet another character introduced just to die. Except, plot twist: Raven is the maiden, and she is not happy about what Cinder tried. Odds are, the next episode is going to be pretty action-packed. I think it’ll be the last for this volume, but others are saying there will be at least one more after that.
This episode was about as evil as a Politician. So many things still wrong with this episode. Three members of the team doing nothing while Oz fights and Yang gets her butt kicked isn’t good writing. Nora and Rinn could still fight, so why did they do nothing? Ruby could’ve just checked to see what Jaune was doing and went to help Yang. Why did it take her so long to help her own sister?
