A new villain already? I guess the action’s picking up? How evil is Mahoutsukai No Yome episode 13?

Okay, so it seems because Chise is now considered a mage, we will be seeing more villains popping up to meet her. If they go the route I’m thinking they will, we may be seeing a few more fights in the near future, maybe even the next episode. Enough of me trying to predict, let’s get into this. The first thing we see is a… flashback? I’m not really sure what it’s about, but I think it has to do with Ashen Eye. More on him later.

After that, Chise and Elias are sheering some kind of Wooley-bug-things for Angelica. Mice to know we might see her again. The sheering becomes dangerous as a heat-stealing bug attacks Chise to consume her body heat. The animation shows her hands partially frozen, so yeah, she would die if it succeeded. Thankfully Elias wards it off in time to save her. When Chise awakens, she and Elias have a nice little chat. Elias reveals that he felt cold when she wasn’t home and she tells him that it was loneliness he was feeling. She then asks if she looked tasty the night he reverted to his beast form. Elias promptly tried to erase her memory of that night, but Chise did this.

Yeah, she tackled him to stop the spell. Both Elias and Chise grow in this episode. Elias admits he has experienced an emotion due to Chise’s absence and Chise was able to freely talk about her parents to Elias. Those are big developments for both of them. I just think it’s nice how they have paced this so far.

After that amazing moment, we get something I didn’t expect. We get a montage of new and familiar events. There are some totally new things we haven’t seen and then we have shots taken straight from the OVA. That’s right, they’ve just made the OVA cannon within the series itself. I had a feeling they would just avoid it altogether, but it’s a nice touch to the series.

After that is when things took a turn for the worse in terms of Chise having a peaceful life. Ashen Eye, who is apparently something similar to Elias, appears. He has something to do with the flashback but I still have no idea what was going on with that. I hope they clear that up soon. Anyway, Eye has come to “greet” Chise. It’s pretty apparent by Elias’s reaction that this guy is trouble. And it was pretty much confirmed when he turned Chise into a fox. Oh, boy Elias won’t let that fly.

Sure this guy didn’t stab her like Joseph did, but Chise is Elias’s sort-of wife and we have seen him developing feelings for her. Seems we can expect a bit more action in this half of the show. I would say this episode was about as evil as a Villian.
