…What just happened? How Evil is Mahoutsukai no Yome – episode 5?

When I said “I assume the death of his wife drove him mad or he was killing cats trying to bring back his wife somehow,” in the last episode, I didn’t expect to be that close to what was actually going on. Also, there was a sorcerer involved, but it wasn’t him. It was really interesting to see what I guessed compared to how it actually went down.

Speaking of guesses, the cats did indeed play a part in this episode. Molly and her compatriots faced off against the sorcerors long enough for Elias to step in and noob them. Yeah, not a battle like I had hoped but it was entertaining (Chris Note: I really think you ought not expect so much action out of this, dude. It’s definitely not the point). Molly also entered the blob thing’s memories. But we’ll get back to that.

Chise had the task of cleansing the blob thing. To do so she entered the creature and witnessed its memories. Can we go back to Chise’s flashbacks, now? They were much less disturbing. After all that unpleasantness, Chise has a choice to either erase the creature and all the souls attached to it or allow Molly to sacrifice her self to escort the souls to the afterlife.

Chise finds a third option, she manages to cleanse all of the souls at one time. I’m so glad they did that. The episode was already pretty dark. I had one issue with this episode. What happened to the sorcerers? We saw them get beat but not what happened to them as a result. I hope the next episode shows us. I want to see them in a jail run by cats.

So far this series is just a beautiful as I had hoped. I would say this episode was about as evil as a Super Villain. This anime has the perfect balance of comedy and drama for me. I don’t cry or anything- (Chris Note: Uh-huh…) Stop that, Chris, I do not. (Chris Note: Sure…) But it sure has gotten me to laugh. If you like what you read, check out our other reviews.
