Mahoutsukai no Yome – Episode 4 Review (Is It Evil?)

Elias chose the purrfect place to train Chise (Chris Note: Ugh). How Evil is Mahoutsukai no Yome episode 4?

Elias and Chise traveled to the kingdom of cats in this episode. It’s not the most outlandish place they’ve visited, but it was interesting to see. Apparently, the church sent Elias here to take care of some kind of evil blob… blob. Not Bob. I had nothing to do with this. Really. And Elias sees this as a good opportunity to train Chise how to use purification magic. This gets interrupted by two sorcerors, one holding Chise at knifepoint. I think a fight is imminent now.

This episode offered a lot in terms of worldbuilding as well. Not only did we get to see the kingdom of cats, we got to learn a lot about them as well. For example, cats have 9 lives. Yeah, that one is old, right? But in this show, they get wiser with each new life. They even learn to speak the human language. The kingdom of cats even has a king, her name is Molly, by the way.

At first glance, their kingdom is a paradise for cats. But as it’s quickly pointed out, it has some serious problems.  The blob thing I mentioned earlier is what remains of a man who killed a lot of cats. We get clues as to why he went berserk, but it’s never directly stated. I assume the death of his wife drove him mad or he was killing cats trying to bring back his wife somehow. Maybe by giving her some of their lives or something like that?

The cats do have an immense hatred for sorcerors. Maybe he was one? No matter the reason, the cats were forced to rise up and kill the man, which resulted in their current predicament. I wonder if the cats will be helping in the fight, coming up. This is their kingdom, so it’s possible they will furrociously (Chris Note: Uuugh…) try to defend it.

Overall this episode was pretty interesting. We got more worldbuilding and possibly actual bad guys. So, I would say this episode is about as evil as a Super Villain. We will have to wait till next week to see if Elias will finally fight. If the intro is any indication this might just be a little scary. If you liked this review check out our others.

Well, that’s all I have for you today. Thanks for letting me waste your time, people.

Keep It Classy,
Evil Bob
