The feeeels! That hit hard for a first episode. How Evil Is Inuyashiki’s premiere?

Color me impressed. I never expected that a Sci-Fi/Dama anime about a 65-year-old would be this appealing. It got me sad, angry, and then I was like “wth just happened?”

Inuyashiki is a 65-year-old man who is disrespected by his own family daily. He can’t seem to do anything they approve of. And then he gets told he has cancer. Yeah, this guy has a rotten life. He even says he doesn’t know if his family would even cry for him. And then he gets vaporized by a UFO… Just let that sink in. It doesn’t end here. The aliens can rebuild him. They have the technology. They have the capability to make the world’s first immortal man. And this man will be that man. Better than he was before. Better. Stronger. Faster… So, basically, he is now an immortal superhero.

The art in this show is pretty cool. Even the CG wasn’t bad. The characters emote well and there is nothing wrong with the color balance. Overall it’s just beautiful to look at. Even the weirder aspects like Inuyashiki’s robot body fit the overall look. The sound design was pretty good too, nothing to complain about there.

The story, while weird, actually made sense, unlike other anime I’ve seen. After his “upgrade,” Inuyashiki goes through the whole “Am I even human anymore?” thing. We see he can no longer digest food, but curiously enough he can still drink water. The question of whether he is still human is answered in the episode. That’s right, a complete arc, character development and all.  I also found the main character to be pretty relatable. They make you feel for him very early on.

Good art, character development, and an interesting premise may, in fact, make this one of the best anime I’ve seen in awhile. I would say it’s about as evil as… a Super Villain. If you are looking for a new anime to watch check out the other reviews. There are some good ones this season.
