Tomb Raider – a series known for its… tomb raiding? Oh, and Lara Croft, the series leading lady, and one of the most well known women in video games. But I’m not about to talk about the whole series. We’d be here all year. Happy New Year, by the way. I’m here to talk about the first of the reboot game from 2013, simply titled Tomb Raider, or as I like to call it “Poor Lara.” So… How Evil Is Tomb Raider (2013)?
Summary Time! Lara is leading a team to investigate a lost civilization in the “Dragon’s Triangle.” So, you know. Good decisions. I guess the Bermuda Triangle was booked. Anyway, she gets shipwrecked on the island that she was looking for, only to find out there is an angry undead queen, stopping people from leaving with her storm controlling powers. Oh, I almost forgot. One of Lara’s friends, Sam, needs to be sacrificed to the queen, so that she can regain her living form. I’m not going to give much more away. If you haven’t played this game yet, shame on you. Lara must save Sam by defeating the Angry Queen, kind of, and escape the island with what’s left of her crew.
Impression Time. You might be wondering why I call the game “Poor Lara”… Well, you see, even a little mistake can lead to a very gruesome and detailed death scene… I make a lot of mistakes. The worst of them has something to do with falling into a river. I won’t say much but, just… it’s not pretty. Next up is weapons. I only use the bow and shotgun through the entire game unless I need the grenade launcher to unblock a path. The Bow is the single most useful item in the game and OP as a mug in multiplayer, as I am told (Chris Edit: So, so OP. But so, so fun. Especially if you’re a sniper, like me =P). The Story? Well… the story is a survival story, but also a mystery as you must uncover what is going on to survive. It’s pretty straightforward, but does have a few little twists to keep it from getting boring or anything.
What do I rate this game? The Story has few flaws worth noting, the gameplay is solid, with little to no complaints from me, and it looks gorgeous on PS4. I’d say it’s definitely a true Villain.
That’s all I have for you, right now. Thanks for letting me waste your time, people.
Keep it Classy,
Evil Bob
