RWBY Volume 5 – Episode 9 Recap (Is It Evil?)

More freakin’ buildup. It’s like that’s all they know how to do now. How evil is RWBY volume 5 episode 9?

RWBY
Studio: Rooster Teeth
Genre: Action, Fantasy, Science Fiction

This episode we got a whole lot of nothing. The whole thing was buildup for what may be the next episode. At this point, I wonder if they’ll even have a satisfying payoff.  We got one snippet of action involving Blake’s dad and Sun. That was it. Everything else was just buildup.  So far that’s four episodes of mostly build up, there better be an awesome payoff for all this waiting.

Towards the end of the episode, Blake met up with the assassin girl I refuse to learn the name of. Yeah, she’s going to fight the same person that’s been bugging her since last season. Blake, you really are slow taking care of your problems, aren’t you? Most of this could’ve been avoided if you would’ve caught her last season. Well, anyway that’s most likely happening next episode, or not. They like drawing things out to make fans angry now. Seriously, this show is getting boring.

Speaking of buildup, Raven was in this episode too. Remeber those people Salem sent to take care of the bandits? Well, they did absolutely nothing but talk. After waiting for three episodes, nothing happened. Which just exemplifies my point. If you’re going to keep building things up, sprinkle in some minor payoffs. This is an action show. Where’s the action?

Raven actually managed to make a “deal” with Cinder. Then they tell us Raven’s real plans. They could’ve saved time and showed us that in a future episode to have more action in this one. Raven is a bandit if she didn’t have a plan something would’ve been wrong. For what’s it’s worth we know of at least three sides that will be at Haven during the attack. Raven’s clan, Cinder and company, and Oz’s champions.

This episode is about as evil an Upstanding Citizen. There’s good storytelling and then there’s this. Even last volume was better than this one. It had a good balance of Buildup and Payoff this one has mostly buildup.  Sure the series has never been all that good with its story but at least it was fun. T-this is almost boring.  If this next episode is build up too I will quit. I have the first two seasons and the game to enjoy, I don’t need this. I really hope the next episode is worth all this buildup. If you like RWBY or magical girl anime check out Chris’s review of Yuki Yuna.

Well, that’s all I have for you today. Thank’s for letting me waste your time, people.

Keep It Classy,
Evil Bob
